Results of ICE-Guided Isolation of the Superior Vena Cava With Pulsed Field Ablation.

JACC Clin Electrophysiol

January 2025

Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute, St. David's Medical Center, Austin, Texas, USA; Interventional Electrophysiology, Scripps Clinic, San Diego, California, USA; Metro Health Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio, USA; Department of Biomedicine and Prevention, Division of Cardiology, University of Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy. Electronic address:

Background: Earlier studies have documented the risk for sinoatrial node injury and phrenic nerve paralysis as complications following radiofrequency catheter ablation for electrical isolation of the superior vena cava (SVCI).

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the safety and feasibility of SVCI in patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing pulsed field ablation (PFA) METHODS: Six hundred sixteen consecutive patients undergoing PFA for pulmonary vein isolation plus SVCI were included in this multicenter analysis. Superior vena cava (SVC) ablation was performed under the continuous guidance of intracardiac echocardiography.

What Are the Intraoperative and Early Postoperative Complications of Temporomandibular Joint Arthrocentesis?

J Oral Maxillofac Surg

January 2025

Research Assistant, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Ondokuz Mayıs University, Samsun, Turkey. Electronic address:

Background: Arthrocentesis is a minimally invasive procedure for treating intra-articular temporomandibular disorders. While it is considered relatively safe, like any surgical intervention, it carries potential risks.

Purpose: The study purpose was to estimate the frequency of complications associated with temporomandibular joint arthrocentesis, identify risk factors, and improve preparedness for effective prevention and management strategies.

Ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury remains a major contributor to organ dysfunction following transient ischemic insults. Although numerous interventions have been found effective to reduce IR injury in preclinical models, none of these therapies have been successfully translated to the clinical setting. In the context of the persistent translational gap, we systematically investigated the mechanisms implicated in IR injury using kidney donation and transplantation as a clinical model of IR.

Objectives: The extent of the surgical treatment for Graves' disease (GD) has evolved from subtotal to total thyroidectomy. This study analyzes the extent of thyroidectomy for GD and its impact on recurrence and complications, focusing on the relationship between remnant thyroid tissue and recurrence in subtotal thyroidectomy, comparing our current approach with historic data spanning over three decades.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of 427 GD patients who underwent surgery at a tertiary hospital from 1988 to 2022.

Electronic address:

Animal venom contains ion channel-targeting peptide toxins that inflict paralysis or pain. The high specificity and potency of these toxins for their target ion channels provides enticing opportunities for their deployment as tools in channel biology. Mechanistic studies on toxin-mediated ion channel modulation have yielded landmark breakthroughs in our understanding of channel architectures and gating mechanisms.
