Polyelectrolyte block copolymer micelles assembled thin film is switched in response to local photocatalytic reactions on titanium dioxide, resulting in a layer of variable height, stiffness in response to visible light irradiation. Preosteoblasts migrate toward stiffer side of the substrates.

Introduction: Removing uremic toxins from the body is one of the most critical points in the maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) population. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of medium cutoff (MCO) membranes on pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (AIx), early markers of arterial stiffness, in MHD patients over both short- and long-term periods.
Methods: Twenty MHD patients were included in this study.

A [2]catenane-based receptor functionalized with stiff-stilbene can be reversibly switched with 340/385 nm light between its - and -isomers, which leads to a considerable change in chloride binding affinity. Photoisomerization in the presence of chloride allows for on demand guest uptake and release.

The bacterial flagellar motor (BFM) is a rotary molecular machine that drives critical bacterial processes including motility, chemotaxis, biofilm formation, and infection. For over two decades, the bead assay, which measures the rotation of a microparticle attached to the flagellum of a surface-attached bacterium, has been instrumental in deciphering the motor's biophysical mechanisms. This technique has not only quantified the rotational speed and frequency of directional switching as a function of the viscous load on the flagellum but has also revealed the BFM's capacity for mechanosensitive speed modulation, adapting to environmental conditions.

Swelling, stiffness, and pain in synovial joints are primary hallmarks of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Hyperactivity of nociceptors and excessive release of inflammatory factors and pain mediators play a crucial role, with emerging data suggesting extensive remodelling and plasticity of joint innervations. Herein, we review structural, functional, and molecular alterations in sensory and autonomic axons wiring arthritic joints and revisit mechanisms implicated in the sensitization of nociceptors, leading to chronic pain.

Significant developments have been made in the field of wearable healthcare by utilizing soft materials for the construction of electronic sensors. However, the lack of adaptability to complex topologies, such as ear canal, results in inadequate sensing performance. Here, we report an in-ear physiological sensor with mechanical adaptability, which softens upon contact with the ear canal's skin, thus reducing the sensor-skin mechanical mismatch and interface impedance.
