Introduction: Intraoperative parathyroid gland (PG) localization remains challenging during thyroid surgeries, contributing to postoperative hypocalcemia and hypoparathyroidism. This study assessed the efficacy of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence in identifying and preserving PGs during thyroid surgeries and its correlation with postoperative outcomes.

Materials And Methods: This ambispective observational study included 57 patients undergoing thyroid surgeries using ICG and compared outcomes with 56 historical controls.

Introduction: Southern Africa has been inhabited by hunter-gatherers for at least 20,000 years and has received diverse immigration flows in the last 2000 years. The original inhabitants have interacted with the pastoralist migrants from Eastern Africa (∼2000 ybp), followed by the southern Bantu migration arriving some 1000 ybp, and more recently with the European and Asian settlers after the 17th century. Many of the original Khoekhoe and San inhabitants have either become extinct or have disappeared through admixture in South Africa (SA), in a sex-biased manner involving KhoeSan women.

Targeted Covalent Modification Strategies for Drugging the Undruggable Targets.

Chem Rev

January 2025

Graduate School of Engineering, Department of Synthetic Chemistry and Biological Chemistry, Kyoto University, Katsura, Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto 615-8510, Japan.

The term "undruggable" refers to proteins or other biological targets that have been historically challenging to target with conventional drugs or therapeutic strategies because of their structural, functional, or dynamic properties. Drugging such undruggable targets is essential to develop new therapies for diseases where current treatment options are limited or nonexistent. Thus, investigating methods to achieve such drugging is an important challenge in medicinal chemistry.

Early identification of concrete cracks and multi-class detection can help to avoid future deformation or collapse in concrete structures. Available traditional detection and methodologies require enormous effort and time. To overcome such difficulties, current vision-based deep learning models can effectively detect and classify various concrete cracks.

Background/objectives: This study identified early neonatal factors predicting pre-discharge mortality among extremely preterm infants (EPIs) or extremely low birth weight infants (ELBWIs) in China, where data are scarce.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 211 (92 deaths) neonates born <28 weeks of gestation or with a birth weight <1000 g, admitted to University Affiliated Hospitals from 2013 to 2024 in Guangzhou, China. Data on 26 neonatal factors before the first 24 h of life and pre-discharge mortality were collected.
