The leishmaniases are globally important parasitic diseases for which no human vaccines are currently available. To facilitate vaccine development, we conducted an open-label observational study to establish a controlled human infection model (CHIM) of sand fly-transmitted cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) caused by Leishmania major. Between 24 January and 12 August 2022, we exposed 14 participants to L.

The advantage of employing mid-infrared spectrometry for milk analysis in breeding lies in its ability to quickly generate millions of records. However, these records may be biased if the calibration process does not account for their spectral variability when constructing the predictive model. Therefore, this study introduces a novel method for developing a world representative spectral database (WRSD) to reduce the risks of spectral extrapolation when predicting dairy traits in new samples.

Background: Alar base is the basal part where the two sides of the nose and the upper lip are connected. Alar base depression affects the overall facial contour by making the nasolabial folds deepen, the nasolabial angle smaller, the center of the face flat, etc. Despite the rapid development of rhinoplasty, controversy still exists regarding the treatment of alar base depression.

This study aims to demonstrate that Large Language Models (LLMs) can empower research on the evolution of human behavior, based on evolutionary game theory, by using an evolutionary model positing that instructing LLMs with high-level psychological and cognitive character descriptions enables the simulation of human behavior choices in game-theoretical scenarios. As a first step towards this objective, this paper proposes an evolutionary model of personality traits related to cooperative behavior using a large language model. In the model, linguistic descriptions of personality traits related to cooperative behavior are used as genes.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health concern, with extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) and carbapenemases being major contributors. Pleural infection (PI) is a severe condition in West Africa, complicated by AMR. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and molecular characteristics of ESBL and carbapenemase-producing enterobacteria in pleural effusions in Mali.
