Background: P. acnes biofilms are emerging topics in acne vulgaris pathogenesis and may be responsible for antibiotic tolerance.
Objective: To investigate the efficacy of GT peptide 10 either alone or in combination with triethyl citrate (TEC) in in vitro model of P. acnes biofilm.
Methods: Six-day-old P. acnes biofilms were treated with various concentrations of these substances and biofilm dispersion and cell viability were monitored.
Results: A 24-hour exposure of preformed biofilms to a combination of GT peptide 10/TEC led to killing of up to 92% of bacterial cells inside the biofilm. Neither the single substance nor the combination of both substances affected the biofilm integrity or resulted in biofilm dispersal.
Conclusions: A combination of GT peptide 10/TEC shows antibacterial effects in in vitro model of P. acnes biofilm.

Drug loaded microfiber scaffolds have potential for sublingual drug delivery due to their fast dissolution time and tunable porosity. Such microfiber scaffolds can be prepared by melt electrowriting (MEW), wherein a polymer melt is electrostatically drawn out of a syringe onto a computer controlled moving collector. The fabrication of such scaffolds via MEW has previously been shown for a polymer with a glass transition temperature (T) just above room temperature, making handling challenging.

Adhesiveness of dermal patches can be modified in the presence of active substances. The effect is more complex when liquid components are also present in the matrix. Commercial grade pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) polyacrylates (three types) and silicones (two types) were used to prepare adhesive matrices and liquid additives were propylene glycol, polyoxyethylene glycol, isopropyl myristate, triacetin, triethyl citrate or low viscosity silicone oil.

Objective: Despite the rising popularity of disposable e-cigarettes, little is known about their chemical characteristics, or their impact on users' health. This work attempts to summarize current knowledge about chemical composition and known health effects of disposable e-cigarettes.
Methods: The literature search was performed in February and March 2024 in Pub Med and Science Direct databases (no time range) by the terms 'disposable electronic cigarette', 'disposable e-cigarette', 'disposable e-cigs', 'cig-a-like e-cigarette', 'cig-a-like electronic cigarette'.

Acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) and acetyl triethyl citrate (ATEC) are widely used as plasticizers, but their metabolites as exposure biomarkers for biomonitoring, as well as approximate human metabolic pathways, are not well understood. This study addresses this knowledge gap by conducting suspect screening to propose specific metabolites in human urine as potential biomarkers of exposure and explore their kinetic profiles. Ten volunteers were administered deuterium labeled ATBC (ATBC-d) and seven received ATEC or deuterium labeled ATEC (ATEC-d), with urine samples collected over 48 h post-administration.

The type of plasticizer and the choice of solvent or co-solvents used for coating of a hydrophilic core can greatly impact the permeability, porosity, and mechanical strength of the polymer film. Although, Ethylcellulose (EC) is an old polymer, it is a polymer of choice for modifying the drug release due to its inherent properties. The ability of polymers like EC alone to form a diffusion-controlling membrane with good mechanical properties is limited.
