The Galectin-Related Protein (GRP), encoded by the LGALSL gene, assigned to the protein family of β-galactoside-binding Galectins, has lost carbohydrate-binding abilities. Its chicken homolog (C-GRP) occurs in the bursa of Fabricius' epithelial and B cells. Our study investigates the unknown regulatory mechanisms controlling its expression by analyzing the promoter region of the chicken (C-)LGALSL gene in chicken cells.

Galectins are a family of lectins that are widely distributed β-galactoside-binding proteins identified in diverse organisms. Galectin family have appeared as pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) responsible for initiating and controlling the innate immunity. The present study aimed to study the binding ability and potential role in PRRs of galectin-related protein B-like (LhGal B-like) from redlip mullet (Liza haematocheila) involved in the host immune responses.

Galectin-related protein is a kind of lectin without canonical activity that regulates cell adhesion and cell growth. In this study, a novel galectin-related protein B (OnGRPB) was identified from Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The open reading frame of OnGRPB was 438 bp and encoded a peptide of 145 amino acids.

Tissue lectins appear to be involved in a broad range of physiological processes, as reflected for the members of the family of galectins by referring to them as adhesion/growth-regulatory effectors. In order to clarify the significance of galectin presence, key challenges are to define their binding partners and the profile of localization. Having identified the chicken galectin-related interfiber protein (C-GRIFIN) as lens-specific protein present in the main body of adult lens, we here report its interaction with lens proteins in ligand blotting.
