Two-hundred Nigerians (65 years and above) were studied and compared with control (18-50 years). Haematocrit, haemoglobin, mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration, mean corpuscular haemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, platelets and ferritin were analyzed. Mean ferritin levels were 105 ± 30 μg/L and 72 ± 10 μg/L (males and females respectively). Mean MCV, MCH and MCHC were 94.6 ± 9.0 fl, 93.6 ± 9.0 fl, 31.5 ± 3.0 pg, 31.4 ± 4.4 pg, 348 ± 30 g/L, and 347 ± 42 g/L. Mean haematocrits were 37 ± 4%, 36 ± 4%, while mean haemoglobins levels were 132 ± 24 g/L and 129 ± 1 g/L. RBC counts were 4.1 ± 0.8 x 1012/L, and 4.0 ± 0.5 x 1012/L. Mean total WBC counts were 6.4 ± 1.5 x 109/L and 6.3 ± 0.7 x 109/L; mean platelets were 170 ± 60 x 109/L, 184 ± 5 x 109/L. All haematological parameters were similar in both aged males and females, except ferritin, haematocrit, RBC and haemoglobin, which were significantly higher in males (p< 0.05). Significant sex differences exist in all the parameters, of control except MCV and total WBC count. There were significant differences in all the haematological parameters between the controls and the aged (p< 0.05), and between the aged (65-84 years) and the very aged (85-105 years) (p< 0.05). Reference haematological range needs to be established for the elderly Nigerians.

Background: Understanding the morphological patterns of degenerative and traumatic spinal conditions is essential for precise diagnosis and management plans. This study evaluates the sequence of structural changes in degenerative spinal disorder patients' disco-vertebral unit and the traumatic spinal injury patterns in a northwestern Nigerian population.
Methods: A hospital-based retrospective study reviewed radiologic images of 307 patients with spinal degeneration (n=269) and trauma (n=38) at two tertiary hospitals in Northwest Nigeria.

Introduction: We describe the 24-month incidence of Dolutegravir (DTG)-containing antiretroviral treatment (ART) initiation since its introduction in 2019 in West Africa.
Methods: We included all patients aged 0-24 years on ART from nine clinics in Côte d'Ivoire (n=4), Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, Benin, and Burkina Faso. Baseline varied by clinic and was defined as date of first DTG prescription; patients were followed up until database closure/death/loss to follow-up (LTFU, no visit ≥7 months), whichever came first.
Background: Under-5 children have been known to bear a significant burden of malaria in endemic countries. Though significant progress has been made towards malaria prevention and control in Nigeria, it is expected that the addition of new malaria prevention strategy, such as perennial malaria chemoprevention (PMC) can contribute to a more rapid decline in malaria cases. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with malaria and anaemia among children aged 2-18 months in Osun State.

Objective: To analyze the frequency, clinical, histopathological, and radiological characteristics of ameloblastoma in Nigeria over the course of two decades.
Study Design: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 371 cases at a Nigerian university hospital between 2000 and 2023. Age, gender, site, histological variants, tumor size and duration were analyzed.

Background: Despite assumptions that insurance coverage would boost oral healthcare utilization in Nigeria, there is insufficient evidence supporting this claim. This study investigates the associations between residential location, awareness of the oral health insurance scheme, history of dental service utilization, and acceptance of oral health insurance among individuals benefiting from the Ilera Eko Scheme; a scheme that integrates preventive and curative oral health care into the state health insurance scheme.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from July to November 2023 recruiting from a database of 1520 enrollees aged of 18 and 72-years-old who had been on the scheme for at least three months.
