Developing a durable multifunctional superhydrophobic coating on polymeric films that can be industrially scalable is a challenge in the field of surface engineering. This article presents a novel method for a scalable technology using a simple single-step fabrication of a superhydrophobic coating on polymeric films that exhibits excellent water-repelling and UV-blocking properties, along with impressive wear resistance and chemical robustness. A mixture of titanium precursors, tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS), hydrophobic silanes and silica nano/micro-particles is polymerized directly on a corona-treated polymeric film which reacts with the surface via siloxane chemistry.

The rational design of photonic crystal photocatalysts has attracted significant interest in order to improve their light harvesting and photocatalytic performances. In this work, an advanced approach to enhance slow light propagation and visible light photocatalysis is demonstrated for the first time by integrating a planar defect into CoO-TiO inverse opals. Trilayer photonic crystal films were fabricated through the successive deposition of an inverse opal TiO underlayer, a thin titania interlayer, and a photonic top layer, whose visible light activation was implemented through surface modification with CoO nanoscale complexes.

One method for the colorimetric detection of hydrogen peroxide vapor is based on a titanium-hydrogen peroxide complex. A color changing material based on a titania hydroxypropyl cellulose thin film was initially developed. However, as this material dries, the sensitivity of the material is significantly reduced.

The simple oxides like titania, zirconia, and ZnO are famous with their antibacterial (or even antimicrobial) properties as well as their biocompatibility. They are broadly used for air and water filtering, in food packaging, in medicine (for implants, prostheses, and scaffolds), etc. However, these application fields can be broadened by switching to the composite multicomponent compounds (for example, titanates) containing in their unit cell, together with oxygen, several different metallic ions.
