This case report highlights the rare presentation of an acute thoracic disc herniation in a 27-year-old male. Thoracic disc herniations are uncommon, accounting for less than 1% of all disc herniations, and acute presentations have scantly been recorded in literature. The patient, a mechanic, presented with a sudden onset of dorsal pain and bilateral lower limb weakness after lifting heavy equipment, leading to a sudden cease of most motor functions in the patient's lower limbs.

It is well recognized that type II Diabetes (T2D) and overweight/obesity are established risk factors for stroke, worsening also their consequences. However, the underlying mechanisms by which these disorders aggravate outcomes are not yet clear limiting the therapeutic opportunities. To fill this gap, we characterized, for the first time, the effects of T2D and obesity on the brain repair mechanisms occurring 7 days after stroke, notably glial scarring.

Background: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have failed to demonstrate the beneficial effects of the pharmacological treatment of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants. We conducted a Bayesian model averaged (BMA) meta-analysis of RCTs comparing the pharmacological treatment of PDA with placebo or expectant treatment.
Methods: We searched for RCTs including infants with gestational age (GA) ≤ 32 weeks and with a rate of open-label treatment of less than 25% in the control arm.
