Tension pneumoventricle: A report of two cases.

Niger J Clin Pract

Department of Surgery, Jos University Teaching Hospital, Jos, Nigeria.

Published: January 2016

Pneumocephalus is often a complication of head trauma and cranial surgeries. Massive intraventricular pneumocephalus is an uncommon entity. We report the cases of two patients presenting same day with a clinical diagnosis of open head injury following separate road traffic accidents whose computed tomography (CT) brain images confirm skull base and vault fractures with massive pneumocephalus and tension pneumoventricles. CT scan remains invaluable in proper evaluation of head injury, and its complications for early and appropriate intervention toward reducing morbidity and mortality.

Purpose: Surgical management of the lateral end of clavicle fractures has been a challenge for orthopedic surgeons considering the high rate of non-union. There has been no right and wrong answer to these types of fractures and many methods discussed in the literature, but the 2 most used bony procedures are hook plate and locking plate with or without the use of supplementary soft tissue procedures. The available evidence, in this case, is scarce with questionable reliability.

ASSESSMENT BY ORAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS OF PATIENT-REPORTED OUTCOMES IN OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA.

J Evid Based Dent Pract

Oral health professionals, including general dentists and orthodontists, may participate in the provision of care to adults and children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) when referred by a sleep medicine specialist. The use of oral appliances (OA) has been presented as a possible management option for mild obstructive sleep apnea among adults. In children, although oral interventions are not supported as a first-line stand-alone management option for OSA, short-term studies have suggested an improvement in sleep signs and symptoms in milder cases.

Moral disagreement in everyday life: An inductive framework for capturing 'moral order'.

Soc Sci Res

March 2025

Department of Sociology and Criminology, University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA, 52245, USA.

The study of morality outside of sociology can be improved, we demonstrate, with greater attention paid to aspects of situated interaction beyond abstract moral principles. We propose an inductive framework that focuses on the bottom-up, situationally framed aspects underlying moral disputes, including types of situational setting, contextual cues, and roles and relationships of involved parties. In clear-cut cases like murder, consensus on right or wrong emerges easily, influenced by either intentions or consequences.

d-Lactic acidosis is an uncommon cause of acidosis that occurs in patients with short bowel syndrome (SBS). Reduced intestinal absorption surface leads to carbohydrate malabsorption, fermented by abnormal colonic bacterial flora, resulting in elevated d-lactate levels. It should be suspected in SBS patients who exhibit typical neurological symptoms without other apparent causes, along with metabolic acidosis with normal l-lactate levels.
