The authors studied the macro- and microstructure of the Treitz ligament and duodenojejunal flexure in 92 cadavers. The variants of the Treitz ligament diversion from the duodenojejunal flexure, its topographic anatomy are described. The effect of the Treitz ligament transection on evacuatory function of the duodenum in 3 dogs was studied. The authors consider the Treitz ligament and duodenojejunal flexure as a valve, which regulates the duodenal content emptying. The possible mechanisms of the duodenojejunal valve functioning are discussed.

Article Synopsis
  • Mesentery was identified as a new organ in 2017, characterized as a continuous tissue from the duodenojejunal flexure to the anorectal junction.
  • It includes primary mesenteropathies, which encompass both common and rare vascular and non-vascular diseases, as well as secondary mesenteropathies that arise from infections or cancers in other organs affecting the mesentery.
  • Understanding the distinct features of these conditions can lead to better awareness, early diagnoses, and improved treatment outcomes.

Development and validation of a nomogram for predicting the placement of nasointestinal tubes in critically ill patients based on abdominal radiography: A single-center, retrospective study.

Emergency and Critical Care Center, Intensive Care Unit, Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital, Affiliated People's Hospital, Hangzhou Medical College, Hangzhou, 310014, Zhejiang Province, China.

Background: Enteral nutrition administered via the nasointestinal tube (NET) is a prevalent nutritional modality among critically ill patients, and abdominal radiographs hold significant value in accurately ascertaining the precise positioning of the NET subsequent to its placement. Therefore, we propose an innovative approach to construct a clinical prediction model based on NET's configuration within the gastrointestinal tract in abdominal radiography. This model aims to enhance the accuracy of determining the position of NETs after their placement.
