Purpose: To evaluate prognostic factors affecting silicone tube intubation outcomes in Asian patients with lacrimal drainage system stenosis.
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on the medical records of 822 patients (1,118 eyes) who had undergone silicone tube intubation to treat lacrimal drainage system stenosis between January 2011 and December 2012. Patients were divided into two groups: a success group and a failure group. Success was defined as the disappearance of epiphora symptoms, normalization of tear meniscus height, and the easy passage of fluid without resistance on the postoperative syringing test. Patient and ocular parameters were compared between the success and failure groups.
Results: A total of 994 eyes of 727 patients were included in analyses. Patients had a mean follow-up period of 34.11 ± 18.70 weeks. Silicone tube intubation was successful in 67.2% of participants. Significant differences between the success and failure groups were found for age (p < 0.001), history of ipsilateral facial palsy (p = 0.028), follow-up period (p < 0.001), and degree of passage on the preoperative syringing test (p = 0.001). Only age (p < 0.001) and degree of passage on the preoperative syringing test (p = 0.002) remained significantly associated with silicone tube intubation success in multivariate analysis.
Conclusions: Age was negatively associated with silicone tube intubation success in patients with lacrimal drainage system stenosis. The success rate was higher in patients who showed easy passage of fluid without resistance on the preoperative syringing test. These factors should be considered by surgeons planning silicone tube intubation in patients with lacrimal drainage system stenosis.

Objectives: Surgery is the only treatment for congenital choanal atresia (CCA). It is crucial to avoid postoperative restenosis or re-occlusion of the neo-choana. This study investigated the efficacy of a navigation-assisted endoscopic endonasal U-flap technique and a bioabsorbable steroid-eluting stent for CCA repair.

The advancement of underwater monitoring technologies has been significantly hampered by the limitations of traditional electrical sensors, particularly in the presence of electromagnetic interference and safety concerns in aquatic environments. Fiber optic sensors are therefore nowadays widely applied to underwater monitoring devices. However, silicon- and polymer-based optical fibers often face challenges, such as rigidity, susceptibility to environmental stress, and limited operational flexibility.

Unlabelled: Human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (UC-MSCs), which can be prepared in advance and are presumed to be advantageous for nerve regeneration, have potential as a cell source for Bio 3D conduits. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nerve regeneration ability of Bio 3D conduits made from UC-MSCs using a rat sciatic nerve defect model.
Methods: A Bio 3D conduit was fabricated using a Bio 3D printer by placing UC-MSC spheroids into thin needles according to predesigned 3D data.

In this work, a DNPH doped PDMS based membrane was developed to facilitate carbonyl compound derivatization. This membrane delivers DNPH in presence of carbonyl compounds to form hydrazones. Subsequently, the resulting hydrazones are preconcentrated, separated and detected by in-tube solid phase microextraction (IT-SPME) coupled on-line with capillary liquid chromatography (CapLC) with Uv-Vis diode array detection (DAD).

Introduction: The main goal of voice therapy is to reestablish the balance of the vocal system through myoelastic and aerodynamic forces. Therefore, the therapeutic method must focus on vocal physiology as a way of reversing the pathology and also be easy for the patient to internalize it. Water resistance therapy (WRT) can meet this demand.
