Recognition and management of agitation, delirium, and pain are key areas. Reduced use of sedatives is an important measure that must be coupled with increased patient engagement, mobilization, and exercise. Use of low tidal volumes and low mean airway pressures during mechanical ventilation is helpful. A key hemodynamic principle following early aggressive volume resuscitation is subsequent careful assessment to avoid unnecessary additional volume administration and adverse consequences of frank volume overload. Substantial evidence now supports a lower hemoglobin transfusion threshold of 7 g/dL. A rush to initiate enteral or parenteral feeds is not clearly supported by the current evidence.

Whether early life acetaminophen (APAP) exposures injure the developing lung is controversial. We sought to correlate murine pulmonary developmental expression profiles of to susceptibility to APAP exposure. P14 C57BL/6 mice were exposed to APAP (140 mg/kg x 1, IP) and assessed for evidence of a histologic, metabolic, functional, and/or transcriptional pulmonary response.

Protonic ceramic electrochemical cells (PCECs) can operate at intermediate temperatures (450° to 600°C) for power generation and hydrogen production. However, the operating temperature is still too high to revolutionize ceramic electrochemical cell technology. Lowering the operating temperature to <450°C will enable a wider material choice and reduce system costs.

Background: Coronary atherosclerosis can lead to acute clinical events upon atherosclerotic plaque rupture (PR) or erosion and arterial thrombus formation. Identifying the effect of distinct plaque characteristics on clinical outcomes in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is critical for clinical therapy. Our goal was to ascertain the correlation between clinical outcome, long-term prognosis, and morphological plaque characteristics in STEMI.

Effects of environmentally relevant ultraviolet B (UVB) light on the embryonic development of a high-altitude dwelling endangered fish, Tor putitora (golden mahseer), were investigated for the first time. For that, three sets of embryos (in triplicates) were exposed to various ambient UVB light doses (1, 2 and 3 W/m, corresponding to 3.6, 7.
