The inter and intra subject variation in the oro-cecal transit time assessed using the bean/breath hydrogen method was studied and analyzed to allow estimation of the number of patients/subjects required to show a drug-induced difference for given levels of statistical significance and power. Thus at the conventional 5% level of significance and for a test with 90% power, a dozen subjects should be sufficient to show a drug-induced change which is 25% or greater. Two crossover studies are described using 20 mg metoclopramide and 2 mg BRL 24924, orally, against placebo to investigate their action on oro-cecal transit time. Metoclopramide, 20 mg, produced a 45% reduction in the transit time compared with placebo. BRL 24924, 2 mg, in a similar study showed a 71% reduction.

Dual opposing quadrature-PT symmetry.

iScience

January 2025

Department of Electrical and Computering Engineering, Binghamton University, Binghamton, NY 13902, USA.

Our recent research on type-I quadrature parity-time (PT) symmetry, utilizing an open twin-beam system, not only enables observing genuine quantum photonic PT symmetry amid phase-sensitive amplification (PSA) and loss in the presence of Langevin noise but also reveals an additional classical-to-quantum (C2Q) transition in noise fluctuations. In contrast to the previous setup, our exploration of an alternative system assuming no loss involves a type-II PSA-only scheme. This scheme facilitates dual opposing quadrature-PT symmetry, offering a comprehensive and complementary comprehension of C2Q transitions and PT-enhanced quantum sensing with optimal performance in the symmetry unbroken region.

While durable antibody responses from long-lived plasma cell (LLPC) populations are important for protection against pathogens, LLPC may be harmful if they produce antibodies against self-proteins or self-nuclear antigens as occurs in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Thus, the elimination of autoreactive LLPC may improve the treatment of antibody-driven autoimmune diseases. However, LLPC remain a challenging therapeutic target.

Objective: The study aimed to increase our understanding of offensive transitions in football, focusing on the time spent executing them and how it is influenced by the period in which they occur and the instant score. The objective is to understand its temporal variables and how they influence the unfolding of the scoreline during a match.

Methodology: This study analyzes 1,649 goals resulting from offensive transitions in 1,151 games across three leagues categories: Top, Marginal, and Emerging leagues.

Purpose: To determine the performance of TOTAL30 for Astigmatism (T30fA; Alcon; Fort Worth, TX, USA) contact lenses (CLs) in existing CL wearers who are also frequent digital device users.

Methods: This 1-month, 3-visit study recruited adult, 18- to 40-year-old subjects who were required to use daily digital devices for at least 8 hours per day. All subjects were refit into T30fA CLs.
