AI Article Synopsis

  • Mucormycosis refers to diseases caused by fungi in the mucorales order, primarily impacting immunocompromised individuals and often resulting in tissue damage.
  • The disease is characterized by necrosis due to blood vessel invasion and is quite rare in healthy people, particularly with breast tissue involvement.
  • This case study discusses an unusual instance of primary breast mucormycosis diagnosed in an immunocompetent young woman, highlighting its rarity in medical literature.

Article Abstract

Mucormycosis is the common name given to several different diseases caused by fungi in the order of mucorales. The clinical hallmark of these opportunistic pathogens in invasive mucormycosis is tissue necrosis resulting from angioinvasion and subsequent thrombosis. Rarely the disease may affect immunocompetent individuals. In addition, the breast involvement in this disease is very rare. Herein, we describe a case of primary breast mucormycosis diagnosed on fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), in an immunocompetent young female, which is extremely rare. Diagn. Background & objectives Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and constitutes a public health priority. Delays in diagnosis and treatment of cancer can adversely impact survival, recovery, and cost of treatment. The objective of this study was to estimate the proportion seeking timely care among those having early warning signals for oral, breast or cervical cancer and to explore the facilitators and barriers to early detection.

Reduced irradiation exposure areas enhanced anti-tumor effect by inducing DNA damage and preserving lymphocytes.

Background: Partial stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) targeting hypoxic regions of large tumors (SBRT-PATHY) has been shown to enhance the efficacy of tumor radiotherapy by harnessing the radiation-induced immune response. This approach suggests that reducing the irradiation target volume not only achieves effective anti-tumor effects but also minimizes damage to surrounding normal tissues. In this study, we evaluated the antitumor efficacy of reduced-tumour-area radiotherapy (RTRT) , and explored the relationship between tumor control and immune preservation and the molecular mechanisms underlying of them.

Background: Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease with distinct clinical subtypes, categorized by hormone receptor status, which exhibits different prognoses and requires personalized treatment approaches. These subtypes included luminal A and luminal B, which have different prognoses. Breast cancer development and progression involve many factors, including interferon-gamma ().

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer characterized by the absence of progesterone and estrogen receptors and low (or absent) HER2 expression. TNBC accounts for 15-20% of all breast cancers. It is associated with younger age, a higher mutational burden, and an increased risk of recurrence and mortality.

Bone marrow is pivotal for normal hematopoiesis and immune responses, yet it is often compromised by malignancies. The bone microenvironment (BME), composed of bone and immune cells, maintains skeletal integrity and blood production. The emergence of primary or metastatic tumors in the skeletal system results in severe complications and contributes significantly to cancer-related mortality.
