A novel ferrocene-functionalized reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-based electrode is proposed. It was fabricated by the drop casting of ferrocene-functionalized graphene onto polyester substrate as the working electrode integrated within screen-printed reference and counter electrodes. The ferrocene-functionalized rGO has been fully characterized using FTIR, XPS, contact angle measurements, SEM and TEM microscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The XPS and EDX analysis showed the presence of Fe element related to the introduced ferrocene groups, which is confirmed by a clear CV signal at ca. 0.25 V vs. Ag/AgCl (0.1 KCl). Mediated redox catalysis of H2O2 and bio-functionalization with glucose oxidase for glucose detection were achieved by the bioelectrode providing a proof for potential biosensing applications.

Ferrocene functionalized rGO-ZnO nanocomposite was synthesized via the facile hydrothermal method. ZnO was reduced over the 3-dimensional rGO framework (3D-Fc@rGO) using Camellia sinensis extract. The Fc@rGO-ZnO nanocomposite was employed for pharmaceutical degradation (sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and ciprofloxacin (CIP)) in an aqueous solution under UV C light.

The study of planar energy storage devices, characterized by low-cost, high capacity, and satisfactory flexibility, is becoming a valuable research hotspot. Graphene, monolayer sp hybrid carbon atoms with a large surface area, always acts as its active component, yet there is a tension between its high conductivity and ease of implementation. Although the difficult-to-assemble graphene can easily achieve planar assemblies in its highly oxidized form (GO), the undesirable conductivity, even after proper reduction, still restricts its further applications.

A sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor was designed utilizing ferrocene-functionalized cuprous oxide superparticles (Au/Fc@CuO SPs) as the signal label and graphene supported by hollow carbon balls (HCNs-GR) as the substrate. The CuO SPs possess a superparticle structure with synergistic properties of isotropy and promising catalytic activity. Ferrocene (Fc) was deposited on the CuO SPs to act as the electronic transmission medium.

Novel ferrocene functionalized graphene with different molecular structures were designed, fabricated and characterized via SEM, EDS, FTIR, XPS and RAMAN methods. SEM results show the two-dimensional structure of the as-prepared catalysts, and the active metal Fe is uniformly distributed on the surface of graphene. The FTIR, XPS and RAMAN results confirmed the successful preparation of ferrocene functionalized graphene.

Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) is an endogenous plant hormone, which plays an important role in agriculture production. A novel probe-free electrochemical immunosensor was fabricated for detecting of MeJA. Fc, carboxylated graphene (COOH-GR) and carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (COOH-MWNT) composite was formed and used to fabricate screen-printed electrode (SPE).
