Bisphosphorylpillar[5]arenes ( and ) were synthesized and used to study the host-guest complexation in organic solvents and water. The interactions between the guests and the phosphate of the hosts lead to strong binding towards alkyl dihalides and alkyldiammonium ions. may be used to detect or separate alkyl dihalides in water due to the rapid precipitation of the complex.

Herein, we report nickel(0)-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of NHC/CAAC-based carbodicarbene (NHC = -heterocyclic carbene and CAAC = cyclic(alkyl)(amino)carbene) with different aryl chlorides, bromides, and iodides. The resulting aryl-substituted cationic carbodicarbene derivatives are prone to one-electron oxidation yielding radical-dications, which, depending on the aryl motif employed, follow different modes of radical-radical dimerization and constitute an entry point to carbon/nitrogen- and nitrogen/nitrogen-centered diradicaloids. Subsequently, this coupling strategy was strategically applied to the synthesis of -phenylene- and ,-biphenylene-bridged carbon/carbon-centered electron-deficient diradicaloids.

Herein, a CsCO-promoted N-alkylation of 3-cyano-2(1H)-pyridones containing alkyl groups with diverse alkyl halides to synthesize N-alkyl-2-pyridones over O-alkylpyridines is reported. The use of alkyl dihalides resulted in complex mixtures of N- and O-alkylated products. The primary factor influencing regioselectivity in these reactions is the electronic effects of substituents on the 2(1H)-pyridone ring, as evidenced by the preferential formation of O-alkylpyridines upon the introduction of aryl groups.

Chelating ligands have had a tremendous impact in coordination chemistry and catalysis. Notwithstanding their success as strongly σ-donating and π-accepting ligands, to date no chelating bis[cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbenes] have been reported. Herein, we describe a chelating, C-symmetric bis[cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene] ligand, which was isolated as a racemic mixture.

Bacterial contaminated water causes potential health issues. Conventional chlorine treatment has shortcomings of environmental hazards and chlorine adoptability by the bacterial cells. Ultrafiltration membrane can intercept bacterial species from feed water.

A visible-light-induced Pd-catalyzed stereoselective synthesis of alkylated ester hydrazones has been developed. This method operates via generation of a nucleophilic carbon-centered radical from alkyl bromide, iodide, or redox-active ester, followed by its addition to hydrazone, and a subsequent desaturation by palladium. The majority of products have configuration, which are inaccessible by conventional condensation methods.
