Gel content determination in cross-linked polyethylene.

Gel content is the dominating parameter which affects properties and prescribes the behaviour of a given type of cross-linked polyethylene. Researchers have determined the gel content by several methods based on solvent extraction, a process which dissolves the linear thermoplastic polymer but swells only the cross-linked fraction. In this work, a comparative evaluation was made using model samples to select the most effective solvents and the suitable extraction conditions leading to increased reliability.

The rheological properties of concrete paste significantly influence its tensile creep behavior. In this study, the tensile creep behavior of high-volume fly ash concrete (HVFAC) employing the same cementitious pastes was experimentally investigated, and the rheological properties of the paste containing a high volume of fly ash using the (NI) technique was investigated in order to explore the influence of the paste's rheological properties (such as micro-mechanical properties and microscopic creep) on the early-age tensile creep of HVFAC. The results demonstrated that the micro-strain of paste containing a high volume of fly ash (HVFA) showed a larger value than that without fly ash.

The methylotrophic yeast belongs to the group of homothallic fungi that are able to spontaneously change their mating type by inversion of chromosomal DNA in the MAT locus region. As a result, natural and genetically engineered cultures of these yeasts typically contain a mixture of sexually dimorphic cells that are prone to self-diploidisation and spore formation accompanied by genetic rearrangements. These characteristics pose a significant challenge to the development of genetically stable producers for industrial use.
