Healthcare reform has had its impact on many health professionals as well as clinical settings, particularly with the enactment of the Affordable Care Act. In healthcare settings, healthcare teams are challenged with new systems of care and changing philosophies of management. However, healthcare providers retain a distinctive sense that they cannot always provide care without some form of collaboration. This article presents the results of a pilot study, which measured the effectiveness of a model of practice utilised at a faculty-practitioner operated university community clinic. The purpose of the study was to measure the perceived effectiveness of a practice model, client satisfaction, and students' perceptions of learning. Implications of this pilot study include providing an interprofessional practice model, which can be replicated in any healthcare setting. This study also provides an opportunity to improve student learning in degree programmes where practice is a significant aspect of the learning process.
The role of a school nurse has evolved due, in part, to complex health conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic. In turn, nurse burnout and early retirement are contributing to school nurse shortages across the United States. Interprofessional support, training, and mentorship are needed to support school nurses new to the field.
Background: Delivery of safe maternity care requires not only individual competence but collective team work, influenced by knowledge, team culture and physical working spaces. The ideal layout for a birthing unit is not known, but deliberate changes to the built environment can influence patient care.
Aims: To explore the impact of creation of an open 'hub' on maternity team culture in a tertiary birthing unit and how physical changes to the environment shape values and practice.
Background: Effective interprofessional collaboration (IPC) in primary care is essential in providing high-quality care for patients with chronic illness. However, the traditional role-based leadership approach may hinder IPC. Instead, physicians should also take followership roles, allowing other healthcare team members (OHCTMs) to lead when they have expertise and/or experience.
Background: As the prevalence of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) has increased over time, more youth with IDD will be transitioning into adult care. Individuals with IDD have a spectrum of behavioral, medical, adaptive, and home/community support needs depending on their cognitive ability, behavior concerns, mobility impairment, and/or medical complexity. Unfortunately, data suggests that adult primary care providers often lack knowledge about the condition-specific medical and adaptive needs of the IDD population leading to decreased access to adequate primary care.
Objective: To aid the shortage of general practitioners (GPs) in Germany, since 2011 medical specialists from other fields may switch specialisation by undergoing a slim-lined training programme (lateral entry) into general practice (GP). Available published qualitative and quantitative data on lateral entrants (LEs) is scarce. Aim of the study was an explorative analysis of LEs in the competence centre for postgraduate medical education Baden-Wuerttemberg (KWBW).
