Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is currently the leading bariatric procedure and targets, among other obesity classes, patients with BMI 30-35 kg/m, which are reaching alarming proportions.

Methods: Between February 2010 and August 2015, data on 541 consecutive patients with BMI 30-35 kg/m undergoing LSG were prospectively collected and analyzed.

Results: Mean age was 32 ± 8 years (13-65) and 419 (77.4 %) were women. Preoperative weight was 92.0 ± 8.8 kg (65-121) and BMI was 32.6 ± 1.5 kg/m (30-35). Comorbidities were detected in 210 (39 %) patients. Operative time was 74 ± 12 min (40-110) and postoperative stay was 1.7 ± 0.22 days (1-3). There were no deaths, leaks, abscesses or strictures and the rate of hemorrhage was 1.2 %. At 1 year, 98 % were followed and BMI decreased to 24.7 ± 1.6, the percentage of total weight loss (% TWL) was 24.1 ± 4.7 while the percentage of excess BMI loss (%EBMIL) reached 106.1 ± 24.1. At 5 years, 76 % of followed patients achieved a ≥50 % EBMIL.

Conclusion: With appropriate surgical expertise, LSG in patients with BMI 30-35 kg/m achieved excellent outcomes with a zero fistula rate.

Background: The association between skeletal muscle and adipose tissue (body composition) and early response using positron emission tomography (PET) in pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) remains unstudied.

Methods: Patients enrolled on Children's Oncology Group studies AHOD0031 (intermediate-risk HL) and AHOD0831 (high-risk HL) with digital abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans at diagnosis and PET scans after 2 cycles (PET2) were included. Two consecutive slices at the third lumbar vertebra were identified and skeletal muscle index (SMI, in cm2/m2) and total adipose tissue index (TATI, in cm2/m2) were calculated using sliceOmatic (Magog, Canada) and height at diagnosis.

Dynamic definition liposculpture (HD2) is considered a highly sought after procedure in body sculpting surgery by patients. Radiofrequency microneedling is a cutting edge technology with evidence-based outcomes demonstrating skin tightening and retraction. These ancillary procedures complement and enhance the results of dynamic definition liposculpture.

Background: Patients with large pannus and ventral hernias may benefit from undergoing panniculectomy performed concurrently with open ventral hernia repair (VHR-PAN). However, there has been concerns related to increase surgical site occurrences when adding a panniculectomy. This study aims to evaluate outcomes of open VHR with and without panniculectomy using a large hernia specific database.

Introduction: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a common vasculitis predominantly affecting larger vessels, especially in individuals aged 70-79. Cerebrovascular ischemic events (CIE), such as stroke and transient ischemic attacks, are serious but rare complications of GCA, with a pooled prevalence of 4%. Some studies found that within 2 weeks of GCA diagnosis, 74% and 34% of patients experience transient or severe ischemic events, respectively.

Currently there is not a clear basis of evidence for post-operative antibiotic duration in spine surgery. A better understanding of risk factors and proper dosing for antibiotics will help improve outcomes and further define appropriate antibiotic use. A single-center retrospective cohort study of all patients undergoing spinal fusions and/or decompressions between January 1, 2018, and July 1, 2023 was performed.
