A novel water-soluble colorimetric and fluorescent palladium probe with excellent selectivity and sensitivity has been designed. Notably, based on a palladium triggered terminal allyl ether cleavage reaction, the probe could detect and discriminate Pd(0) and Pd(2+)/Pd(4+) in about 2.5 min at room temperature with a low detection limit (0.29 ppb) and significant colour change (from light yellow to pink). The probe could serve as an excellent "naked-eye" colorimetric probe for selective and quantitative determination of palladium in aqueous solutions. Moreover, it could be used as a two-photon palladium probe for in vitro/vivo and three-dimensional imaging with low cytotoxicity and autofluorescence.

A fluorescence and colorimetric sensor (AHT) was developed to detect HSO/SO in a 10 mM aqueous PBS buffer at pH 7.4. AHT exhibits non-fluorescence in the buffer due to the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT).

Diarylethenes (DAEs) are an important class of photoswitchable compounds that typically undergo reversible photochemical conversions between the open and closed cyclized forms upon treatment with UV light or visible light. In this study, we introduced thioacid functional groups to several photochromic dithienylethene (DTE) derivatives and established a method that can be used to prepare these photoswitchable thioacids. Four thioacid-functionalized diarylethene derivatives were synthesized through the activation of carboxylic acids with -hydroxysuccinimide, followed by reactions with sodium hydrosulfide with yields over 90%.

Herein, a sustainable solid-state procedure is employed for the synthesis of a water-soluble molecule obtained by linking hyaluronic acid to the hydrophobic quercetin (HA-QCT). The micellar self-aggregation of the developed conjugate suggested its employment as a drug delivery nano-system, considering the numerous biological activities of QCT. Indeed, the spectroscopic characterization (ultraviolet-visible and Fourier transform infrared) ensured that the QCT maintained its chemical integrity.

Sulfur dioxide (SO) is one of the major pollutants in the atmosphere, which is highly susceptible to inhalation by the human body and is converted into its derivatives (HSO/SO), which is hazardous to both human health and the ecological environment. Therefore the detection of SO derivatives (HSO/SO) is very important. In this work, we have prepared ID-QL, a water-soluble fluorescent probe based on the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) mechanism, it exhibits colorimetric and fluorescent dual-channel response to HSO with ultrafast, highly selective and sensitive detection.

An efficient and rapid method for the detection of total soluble protein in tobacco leaves, utilizing a smartphone-based colorimetric approach has been developed. The proposed low-cost, immediate, general-purpose, and high-throughput (LIGHt) smartphone colorimetric screening assay integrates commercially available microplates, enabling on-site, high-throughput screening of tobacco leaf quality. The study involves preparing protein standard solutions and constructing standard curves using both spectrophotometric and smartphone-based methods.
