Background: Grapevine flower number per inflorescence provides valuable information that can be used for assessing yield. Considerable research has been conducted at developing a technological tool, based on image analysis and predictive modelling. However, the behaviour of variety-independent predictive models and yield prediction capabilities on a wide set of varieties has never been evaluated.
Results: Inflorescence images from 11 grapevine Vitis vinifera L. varieties were acquired under field conditions. The flower number per inflorescence and the flower number visible in the images were calculated manually, and automatically using an image analysis algorithm. These datasets were used to calibrate and evaluate the behaviour of two linear (single-variable and multivariable) and a nonlinear variety-independent model. As a result, the integrated tool composed of the image analysis algorithm and the nonlinear approach showed the highest performance and robustness (RPD = 8.32, RMSE = 37.1). The yield estimation capabilities of the flower number in conjunction with fruit set rate (R = 0.79) and average berry weight (R = 0.91) were also tested.
Conclusion: This study proves the accuracy of flower number per inflorescence estimation using an image analysis algorithm and a nonlinear model that is generally applicable to different grapevine varieties. This provides a fast, non-invasive and reliable tool for estimation of yield at harvest. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry.

Tomato is an important crop worldwide, but groundnut bud necrosis virus (GBNV) often hampers its growth. This study investigates the antiviral potential of bacterial endophytes, including CNEB54, CNEB4, CNEB26, and BAVE5 against GBNV, as well as their ability to enhance immunity and growth in tomato. All four bacterial isolates demonstrated a significant delay in GBNV symptom development 10 days post-inoculation, with disease incidence ranging from 18% to 36% compared to 84% in control.

Breeders adjust wheat heading dates to improve regional adaptability and reduce or mitigate yield losses caused by meteorological disasters, pests and diseases. The Ppd-1 genes play a crucial role in determining wheat sensitivity to changes in day-length and serve as key regulators of heading dates once the vernalization requirement is satisfied. In this study, we identified a new allelic variant of the promoter region, Ppd-B1a.

Protein phosphatases (PPs) are a class of enzymes that play a critical role in cellular regulation by catalyzing the removal of phosphate groups from proteins. This dephosphorylation process is essential for controlling and modulating various cellular functions, including signal transduction, cell cycle progression, metabolic regulation, and stress responses. This study focuses on the comprehensive genomic identification, evolutionary analysis, and transcript profiling of the PP2C gene family within Solanum lycopersicum, an economically significant crop with substantial agricultural and nutritional importance.

This study assessed the intensity of salt stress in the two tomato varieties by measuring variables associated with the water regime, chlorophyll content, normalized difference vegetation index, gas exchange, and yield. The cultivars Amalia and Claudia, which represent tolerance and susceptibility to salinity, were evaluated. Three treatments were established in plastic pots, using a completely randomized design: T1, saline soil (ECse = 6.
