The synthesis of tetranuclear gold complexes, a structurally unprecedented octanuclear complex with a planar [Au(I) 8 ] core, and pentanuclear [Au(I) 4 M(I) ] (M=Cu, Ag) complexes is presented. The linear [Au(I) 4 ] complex undergoes C-H functionalization of carbonyl compounds under mild reaction conditions. In addition, [Au(I) 4 Ag(I) ] catalyzes the carbonylation of primary amines to form ureas under homogeneous conditions with efficiencies higher than those achieved by gold nanoparticles.

AuCl(PMe) and AuCl(PEt) were used to react with quinoline-8-thiolate (8-QNS) to give three Au(I) complexes, i.e., [8-QNS(AuPMe)]ClO (), [(8-QNS)Ag(AuPMe)]ClO (), and [8-QNS(AuPEt)]ClO (), which have been structurally determined by X-ray diffraction to show various intra- and intermolecular metal···metal contacts (i.

Halenium ions (X) are highly reactive electron deficient species that are prevalent transient intermediates in halogenation reactions. The stabilisation of these species is especially challenging, with the most common approach to sequester reactivity through the formation of bis-pyridine (Py) complexes; [(Py)X]. Herein, we present the first example of a macrocyclic stabilisation effect for halenium species.

The design and study of rich, bulky phosphorus ligands is a key area of research for homogeneous catalysis. Here, we describe an original strategy using a hydrophosphination reaction to produce phosphines of interest for coordination chemistry and homogenous catalysis. In particular, the phosphine obtained by reacting diphenylphosphine with acenaphthylene (ligand ) gives a ligand that adopts an unusual spatial geometry.

Metallophilic interactions are the widespread interactions in multimetal clusters to orientate closed-shell metal self-assembly form linear, facet, or block clusters. The closed-shell metal cation does not have empty valence orbitals, but is able to attract each other. It is still a conundrum to understand the resource in balancing the strong Coulomb repulsion between two cations.
