This study examined the contribution of the osteoarthritis (OA) susceptibility genes ASPN, GDF5, DIO2, and the 7q22 region to the development of radiographic knee OA in patients with a mean age of 40.6 ± 7.9 years (standard deviation) and who suffered from nonacute knee complaints a decade earlier. Dose-response associations of four single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) in the susceptibility genes were determined by comparing 36 patients who showed the development of OA on radiographs (Kellgren and Lawrence score ≥1) with 88 patients having normal cartilage with no development of OA on radiographs. Multivariate logistic regression analysis including the variables such as age, gender, body mass index, and reported knee trauma was performed. A dose-response association of DIO2 SNP rs225014: odds ratio (OR) 2.3, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.1-4.5 (P = 0.019) and GDF5 SNP rs143383: OR 2.0, 95% CI 1.1-3.8 (P = 0.031) was observed with knee OA development. The ASPN and 7q22 SNPs were not associated with OA development.

: Chemotherapy (CMT) in children can disrupt dental development and calcification, causing long-term dental issues, but good dental care and habits can help improve quality of life. This case report examines permanent dental disturbances in a 7-year, 4-month-old girl undergoing CMT, explores the histology of microdontia, and outlines an oral treatment plan for CMT management. : Clinical examination revealed microdontia and a groove crossing the cervical area (chronological hypoplasia), which were assessed using panoramic radiographs and histological analysis.

: Classical reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) with a high neck-shaft angle (NSA) of 155° has shown satisfactory outcomes. However, newer RSA designs aim to improve results by modifying the stem design. This study evaluates the 5-year outcomes of a stem design featuring a rectangular metadiaphyseal fixation and a 135° NSA.

: Predictors of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized COVID-19 patients have been extensively studied. However, comparative analyses of predictors for hospitalization versus discharge from the emergency department remain limited. : This retrospective study evaluated predictors of hospitalization among adults (≥18 years) presenting to the emergency department with COVID-19 infection between 1 March 2020 and 15 June 2020.

: Surgery for adolescent idiopathic deformities is often aimed at improving aesthetic appearance, striving for the best possible correction. However, severe and rigid scoliotic curves not only present aesthetic issues but can also compromise cardiopulmonary health and cause early neurological impairment due to spinal cord compression, posing significant risks of morbidity and mortality if untreated. Conservative treatments are ineffective for severe curves, defined by scoliotic angles over 70° and flexibility below 30% on lateral bending X-rays.

Pilon fractures are associated with high-energy injuries, and there is presently much debate as to optimal fixation strategies and timing of intervention. There is little evidence comparing the type of fibular fixation during pilon fracture fixation. The purpose of this study was to compare fibular fixation methods in complex pilon injuries as it relates to pilon union rates and development of post-traumatic arthritis.
