Phenolic compounds detection in fruit extracts from: açai, bacuri, buriti, blackberry, black mulberry, blueberry, juçara, physalis, raspberry, and tamarillo, have been performed by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (RP-HPLC-EC), using two detectors in series: a wall-jet detector flow cell with a glassy carbon electrode, and a thin-layer flow cell detector with a boron doped diamond electrode. This methodology, in gradient elution mode, was successfully used to detect seventeen phenolic compounds in the fruit extracts. The total antioxidant capacity of the fruit extracts by the electrochemical quantitative index (EI) and the method of capture of diphenilpicrilhydrazil (DPPH(●)) free radical "efficient concentration" (EC50), was evaluated. A very good correlation between EI and EC50 assays has been obtained, the fruit with the highest total antioxidant capacity being blackberry, while physalis exhibited the lowest antioxidant power.

Background: Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) characterized by damage and inflammation of hepatocytes. Some medicinal plants have shown antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects on liver cells. We aimed to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of Heptex® capsules containing 200 mg of Dukung Anak (a powdered extract from aerial parts of Phyllanthus niruri) and 100 mg of Milk Thistle (a powdered extract from fruits of Silybum marianum) in patients with an apparent risk factor for NASH.

Microwave-assisted extraction of pectin from Dillenia indica (DI) fruit was optimized using Box-Behnken design to maximize yield and quality. Parameters such as solid:solvent (1:10-1:30), microwave power (200-600 W), and extraction time (4-10 min) were varied to determine the optimal conditions. Through experimentation, the optimized extraction parameters were identified as 1:23.

The simultaneous determination of pentacyclic triterpenoids, which are secondary metabolites in plants, is difficult because of the similarity in structure and minimal differences in polarity. In this study, we established a simple and sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of pentacyclic triterpenoids based on liquid chromatography-single-quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS) using a C30 column. The established method completely separated 13 pentacyclic triterpenoids based on their different retention times.

Genetic variation for malting quality as well as metabolomic and near-infrared features was identified. However, metabolomic and near-infrared features as additional omics-information did not improve accuracy of predicted breeding values. Significant attention has recently been given to the potential benefits of metabolomics and near-infrared spectroscopy technologies for enhancing genetic evaluation in breeding programs.
