Background: The purpose of this study was to elucidate the prognostic significance of the pretreatment metabolic tumor volume (MTV) in patients with piriform sinus carcinoma treated by radiation-based therapy.
Methods: This retrospective study included 100 patients with piriform sinus carcinomas who had received treatment by radiation-based therapy. The MTV values were obtained from pretreatment positron emission tomography (PET). The association between clinical factors, including the MTV, and survival was analyzed.
Results: Kaplan-Meier estimates revealed the 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) rates were significantly poorer for patients with a high MTV compared to those with a low MTV. In the multivariate analysis, MTV (p < .001), nodal metastasis (p = .011), and applied chemotherapy regimen (p = .004) were found to be independent prognostic factors for DFS.
Conclusion: The locoregional MTV is a prognostic factor for DFS in patients with piriform sinus carcinoma treated by radiation-based therapy. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Head Neck 38: 1708-1716, 2016.

Introduction And Objectives: Isolated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (IHH) may be associated with pituitary gland and olfactory system disorders. We aimed to correlate findings of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the pituitary gland and olfactory system in IHH patients with the patients' olfactory phenotype.
Patients And Methods: The present research was a single-center retrospective case-control study.

Objectives: To introduce a novel technique using the buried-guided suture method for suspending the alar crus to correct nostril exposure in East Asians and to investigate its safety and efficacy.
Methods: Patients with ptotic alar crus and nostril exposure at our clinic were enrolled between December 2011 and December 2023. Via an intranasal incision, the excess skin on the inner side of the nostrils was excised.

We aimed to assess neurodegenerative changes in the rhinencephalon via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and relate it to olfactory function and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Individuals aged 18-65 with T1D duration over 10 years and control healthy subjects underwent olfactory assessment using Sniffin'Sticks and brain MRI to assess volumetric measurements of the olfactory bulbs and piriform cortex thickness. 32 T1D (24 males) aged 43.

Purpose: and background: Neuroimaging studies have increasingly found functional connectivity (FC) changes and structural cortical abnormalities in patients with post-traumatic anosmia (PTA). Training and repeated exposure to odorants lead to enhanced olfactory capability. This study is conducted to investigate the correlations between FC and cortical thickness on the olfaction-related regions of the brain in PTA after olfactory training (OT).

Background: This research aimed to delve into the cortical morphological transformations in patients with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-negative temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE-N), seeking to uncover the neuroimaging mechanisms behind these changes.
Methods: A total of 29 individuals diagnosed with TLE-N and 30 healthy control participants matched by age and sex were selected for the study. Using the surface-based morphometry (SBM) technique, the study analyzed the three-dimensional-T1-weighted MRI scans of the participants' brains.
