We have derived a closed-form expression for the angle between polarizations of ordinary and extraordinary rays in uniaxial crystals for, first, any two rays propagating in the material, and, second, for rays coming from refraction. We show the cases in which orthogonality holds and that, in general, the deviation from orthogonality is rather small, for it depends on the difference of the optical indices. Specific examples for calcite and quartz are given.

Low-temperature phase (β-form) barium borate (BBO) is one of the most important nonlinear crystals that has been widely used for optical second-harmonic generation (SHG), especially with femtosecond sources. There was growing interest in its applications in the direct generation of terahertz (THz) radiations, but it was hindered by the lack of knowledge of its basic properties in the THz range. In a recent study based on first-principles quantum chemistry calculation, we found that the theoretically calculated refractive indices of β-BBO in the THz frequency range do not agree with the previously reported values.

Among the many factors causing physician burnout is the difficulty of finding meaning in clinical work. Psychiatrist and philosopher Viktor Frankl believed that meaning, derived from experiences of self-transcendence, can help a person endure extraordinary adversity. The Confucian concept of li may offer a path to finding meaning in clinical work.

The restorative effect of natural environments on human well-being has garnered significant attention in psychology and environmental science. However, extraordinary nature-such as volcanoes, glaciers, and starry skies-has been largely underexplored despite its potential to elicit stronger emotional and physiological responses. Similarly, personality analysis has been somewhat overlooked in environmental psychology research.

Red emission in crystals has been observed with an ultra-small-single-benzenic -fluorophore () with a molecular weight (MW) of only 197 Da, bettering the literature report of fluorophores with the lowest MW = 252 Da. Supramolecular extensive hydrogen-bonding and J-aggregate type centrosymmetric discrete-dimers or a 1D chain of s led to red emission ( = 610-636 nm) in crystals. Unlike in the solution phase showing one absorption band, in thin films and in crystals the transition from the S state to both the S state and S state becomes feasible.

Recently electrochemical urea oxidation reaction (UOR) has emerged as the technology of demand for commercialization of urea-based energy conversion. However, the nascent idea is limited by the energy burden of threshold voltage and the sluggish reaction kinetics involving a six-electron transfer mechanism. Herein, for the first time, the engineering of electrocatalysts are proposed with simultaneous inclusion of UOR activator and UOR accelerator.
