Objective: To replace 75 % of formula feeds by donor human milk (DHM) feeds in the first three days of life in neonates admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Methods: It was a prospective observational study in the NICU in a resource-limited set up in India. All neonates admitted during December 2013 and August 2014, were included in the study without any exclusion. Expressed DHM was administered within 2-3 h of manual expression without refrigeration or pasteurization. It was left standing at room temperature in a covered stainless steel container prior to use. Prospective entries of 2 hourly neonatal feeds, for first 3 d of life, (36 entries) were made in the charts. Main outcome was the desired percentage replacement of formula feeds.
Results: Total 168 neonates were admitted to the NICU over the study period. Their median [Interquartile range (IQR); Range] gestation and birth weight was 37 (36, 38; 24-42) wk and 2300 (2100, 2700; 500-2950) g respectively. A total of 4136/6027 (68.6 %) charted feeds were of human milk and 1891(31.4 %) were of formula milk. Thus, 68.6 % of formula feeds were replaced by DHM. Neonates weighing ≤2 kg were at a lower risk of getting >25 % formula feeds.
Conclusions: A simple low cost method was effective in replacing a significant proportion of formula feeds by DHM in the first three days of life for neonates in a resource poor set up.

Premastication is a traditional feeding method whereby solids are pre-chewed by the mother or sometimes by other relatives and then given to the infant along with the oral microbiota. The aim of this study was to assess if premastication is known or performed among the German population as well as to evaluate the expectations regarding this feeding method, particularly in the context of allergy prevention. Two surveys about premastication were conducted.

Two randomized controlled trials conducted in acutely burned patients found clinical benefits with higher carbohydrate (60-65% of total energy), lower fat (12-15%) nutrition, to include faster wound healing, fewer wound infections, decreased hospital stay, and less pneumonia. The primary purpose of this study was to assess whether our change in practice to a higher proportion of carbohydrates (60%) with 25% of energy from protein, and 15% of energy from fat was associated with improved wound healing rates. Secondary outcomes evaluated included invasive fungal wound infections, ischemic bowel, sepsis, and mortality.

Objective: Describe experiences of, and responses to, 2022 infant formula shortages among households with infants aged up to 18 months by race/ethnicity using Household Pulse Survey data.
Methods: Outcomes included whether households were affected by shortages and, if so, 3 nonmutually exclusive response categories (increased breastmilk, obtained formula atypically, and disruptive coping [disruptions to breastmilk and/or formula]) and 1 mutually exclusive response category (solely disruptive coping). Unadjusted shares reporting each were compared using t tests.

Background: Pneumatosis intestinalis (PI) is a rare radiological finding that may be associated with various diseases. In the neonatal period, it is considered pathognomonic for necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Cow's milk protein allergy (CMA) is the main cause of allergy especially in term infants appearing following breastfeeding or consumption of milk-based formulas.

Purpose: To evaluate and summarize the best evidence of home enteral tube feeding (HETF) care management in the elderly to provide an evidence-based basis for caregivers to implement care interventions.
Patients And Methods: Evidence on HETF care management in the elderly was retrieved from Chinese and international databases, guidelines, and websites of professional associations, including systematic reviews and expert consensuses, using the keywords of home enteral nutrition, home tube feeding, old, elder, home care, etc. The literature considered in this study was published from April 2019 to April 2024.
