Bis[2,4-di(trifluoromethyl)quinoline-7-yl]amine (1), bis[2,4-di(trifluoromethyl)quinoline-7-yl]methylamine (2), bis[2,4-di(trifluoromethyl)quinoline-7-yl]phenylamine derivatives, Q2 NPhX; X=NO2 (3 a), I (3 b), H (3 c), OMe (3 d), and NH2 (3 e), tris[2,4-di(trifluoromethyl)quinoline-7-yl]amine (4), and bis[2,4-di(pentafluoroethyl)quinoline-7-yl]-4-nitrophenylamine (5) were prepared as functional fluorophores. On irradiating the solution samples, 1 showed no noticeable alteration, whereas 2, 3 a-d, and 4 showed emission color changes from yellowish green to blue, indicating that a photoreaction took place. Analyses of the photoproduct based on absorption and emission spectra, (1) H NMR spectra, and X-ray crystallography indicated that photocyclization reactions occurred regioselectively and quantitatively to form bent-bent dipyridocarbazoles. In 3 a-d, the reaction rates depended on the solvent polarity and the substituent on the benzene ring. The photoreactions were accelerated with decreasing solvent polarity and with increasing electron-withdrawing character of the substituents. The photocyclization of triquinolineamine 4 was faster than that of 3 a in all solvents. The results of semiempirical quantum-chemical PM6 calculations suggested that the observed regioselective photocyclization could be explained by stabilization of the excited triplet transition state for the bent-bent form because of the molecular geometry with the CH-NQ hydrogen bonds. The solution of 5 in MeOH displayed photoreaction-induced self-assembly behavior to form twisted tape-like fibers of width 200 nm, as determined by TEM imaging.

A ratiometric fluorescent nanoprobe (CDs-Rho), synthesized through the simple covalent amide linkage between carbon dots (CDs) and pH-sensitive rhodamine dye (Rho), was designed for the precise sensing and imaging of extremely alkaline environments. The sensing mechanism involves the opposite pH-dependent fluorescence changes in CDs and Rho, respectively, coupled with pH-regulated FRET efficiency from CDs to Rho. The nanoprobe features a wide pH response window from pH 7.

Dy/Tb co-doped glasses have drawn profound attention for their potential in solid state lighting due to their unique luminescence properties. This research highlights the effect of compositional variation on structural and optical characteristics of Dy/Tb co-doped phospho-tellurite glasses through a comprehensive analysis involving X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and photoluminescence (PL) studies. XRD and FTIR spectroscopy are conducted to characterize the glass matrix and confirm its structural integrity.

In recent years, carbon dots (CDs) with fluorescence imaging function have been widely used in biomedicine, electronic manufacturing and environmental monitoring. However, monochromatic fluorescence is often limited by the application environment and loses its effectiveness. Here, we carefully designed white fluorescent CDs (WF-CDs) by solvothermal method, which is used for fluorescence imaging applications under different environmental conditions.

Nowadays, benzimidazole and its derivatives are widely assembled into multifunctional materials with various properties such as mechanochromism, photochromism, thermochromism and electrochromism. Herein, two novel zinc(II) coordination compounds, [Zn(L)Br]·2HO (1) and [Zn(L)Cl]·2HO (2) (L = tetra(1-benzo[]imidazol-2-yl)ethene), have been constructed one-pot facile synthesis from bis(1-benzo[]imidazol-2-yl)methane (L) and zinc(II) salts. The ligand L with a CC double bond was formed by C-C coupling of two sp-C atoms of L in solvothermal synthesis, which provides a new strategy to generate the conjugation system conveniently.

Long lifetime multicolor phosphorescence materials possess excellent optical properties and have important application prospects in the fields of advanced anti-counterfeiting and information encryption. However, realizing long lifetime and color-tunable room temperature phosphorescent (RTP) carbon dot (CD) materials has proved challenging. In this study, the organic precursor molecules 2-phenethylamine (2-Ph), 9-aminophenanthrene (9-Ph) and 1-aminopyrene (1-Py) with different degrees of conjugation were selected to synthesize RTP CD composites: 2-Ph@BA, 9-Ph@BA and 1-Py@BA were synthesized by mixing with a boric acid (BA) matrix under high temperature pyrolysis.
