Stroke is one of the leading contributors to morbidity, mortality, and health care costs in the United States. Although several preclinical strategies have shown promise in the laboratory, few have succeeded in the clinical setting. Optogenetics represents a promising molecular tool, which enables highly specific circuit-level neuromodulation. Here, the conceptual background and preclinical body of evidence for optogenetics are reviewed, and translational considerations in stroke recovery are discussed.

Ischaemic stroke is a leading cause of death and disability. Circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) post-stroke may help brain endothelial cells (BECs) counter ischaemic injury. However data on how EVs from ischaemic stroke patients, considering injury severity, affect these cells are limited.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of minimally invasive hematoma evacuation for the treatment of traumatic intracranial hematoma (TIH).
Methods: Ninety patients diagnosed with traumatic intracerebral hematoma at Shengli Oilfield Central Hospital from August 2019 to September 2023 were selected as the study subjects. The patients were divided into the craniotomy group (C group, n = 45) and the minimally invasive hematoma evacuation group (MIHE group, n = 45).

Background: Wernicke-Korsakoff encephalopathy is a metabolic disease caused by vitamin B1 deficiency that predominantly affects alcoholic patients. Its clinical picture is characterized mainly by altered mental status with memory deficits, ophthalmoparesis, and ataxia, although other clinical manifestations may also be present. The current case presents certain clinical difficulties regarding the diagnosis when confronting an atypical presentation of a classical disease in an acute setting when a decision to administer an intravenous thrombolytic agent needs to be made.

Background: To support recovery after stroke, rehabilitative actions and innovations are needed in resource-limited health care and geographically distant regions.
Objective: The first objective was to explore the feasibility of performing home-based training using the novel DISKO-tool including both telerehabilitation and serious gaming customized to target dynamic balance poststroke. The second objective was to assess the outcome using the Balance Evaluation Systems Test as the primary outcome.
