Estimating negative impacts of MSW dumps on its surrounding environment is the key requirement for any remedial measures. This study has been undertaken to map bio-thermal effects of MSW dumping at and around dumping facilities (non-engineered) using satellite imagery for Faisalabad, Pakistan. Thirty images of Landsat 8 have been selected after validation for the accuracy of their observational details from April 2013 to October 2015. Land Surface Temperature (LST), NDVI, SAVI and MSAVI have been derived from these images through Digital Image Processing (DIP) and have been subjected to spatio-temporal analysis in GIS environment. MSW dump has been found with average temperature elevation of 4.3K and 2.78K from nearby agriculture land and urban settlement respectively. Vegetation health has been used as the bio-indicator of MSW effects and is implemented through NDVI, SAVI, MSAVI. Spatial analyses have been used to mark boundary of bio-thermally affected zone around dumped MSW and measure 700m. Seasonal fluctuations of elevated temperatures and boundary of the bio-thermally affected zones have also been discussed. Based on the direct relation found between vegetation vigor and the level of deterioration within the bio-thermally affected region, use of crops with heavy vigor is recommended to study MSW hazard influence using bio-indicators of vegetation health.

Millets are recognized as future foods due to their abundant nutrition and resilience, increasing their value on the global stage. Millets possess a broad spectrum of nutrients, antinutrients, and antioxidants, making it imperative to understand the effects of various processing methods on these components. Antinutritional factors interfere with the digestibility of macro-nutrients and the bioavailability and bio accessibility of minerals.

Dimethyl-Sulfoxide-Free Cell Cryoprotectant Derived from Amino Acids.

With the large-scale applications of cryopreservation technology in the cell therapy fields, traditional permeable cryoprotectants (CPAs) have led to serious issues, such as cell cycle arrest, inhibition of cell proliferation and differentiation, apoptosis, altered gene expression, etc. Development of green, non-toxic cryoprotectants is critically needed. Amino acids could serve as substrates for protein and cellular metabolism and as cryoprotectants with non-toxicity, balancing the intracellular water osmotic pressure.

Extracellular matrix sponge plays a positive role in the wound healing process, but requires proper structural strength and biological properties. In order to solve the problem of lyophilized dissolution of placenta-derived sponge, glutaraldehyde was selected for use in the lyophilized crosslinking process to improve the necessary mechanical properties of the placental decellularization matrix sponge. In this work, the effects of three cross-linking methods of glutaraldehyde (Fumigation/Slurry/Soak) on the physical and biological characteristics of lyophilised sponges derived from placental acellular matrix was investigated.

In situ monitoring of loading and elution processes of cryoprotectants at the single-cell level with Raman spectroscopy.

Institute of Bio-thermal Science and Technology, Shanghai Co-innovation Center for Energy Therapy of Tumors, Shanghai Technical Service Platform for Cryopreservation of Biological Resources, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai, 200093, China. Electronic address:

Background: The analysis of cell membrane permeability plays a crucial role in improving the procedures of cell cryopreservation, which will affect the specific parameter settings in loading, removal and cooling processes. However, existing studies have mostly focused on deriving permeability parameters through osmotic theoretical models and cell volume response analysis, and there is still a lack of the direct experimental evidence and analysis at the single-cell level regarding the migration of cryoprotectants.

Results: In this work, a side perfusion microfluidics chips combined with Raman spectroscopy system was built to monitor in situ the Raman spectroscopy of extracellular and intracellular solution during loading and elution process with different cryoprotectant solution systems (single and dual component).

The work presented here provides the guidelines and results for designing and implementing a highly sensitive modified Van der Pol - Duffing oscillator with a trigonometric damping function (VTD). This VTD can exhibit periodic and quasi-chaotic behavior necessary for application in weak signal detection. Here, we present two proposals: (1) A method based on a quasi-chaotic intermittent array (ANLIOA), whose all VTD parameters are calculated and fine-tuned toward a critical state between chaotic and periodic state through a Lyapunov exponent procedure, and (2) A method based on a single oscillator in an adaptive stopping oscillation system (ANLSOS), where VTD is established within an oscillatory regime.
