This study aimed to investigate the in vivo kinematics of shear modulus of the lower leg muscles in patients with medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS). The study population included 46 limbs with MTSS and 40 healthy limbs. The shear modulus of the medial head of the gastrocnemius, lateral head of the gastrocnemius, soleus, peroneus longus and tibialis anterior muscles were measured using shear wave ultrasound elastography. As a result, the shear modulus of the lower leg muscles was significantly greater in patients with MTSS than in healthy patients (p < 0.01). Based on the differences in shear modulus of lower leg muscles between the patients with MTSS and healthy patients, the measurements obtained via shear wave ultrasound elastography could be used to evaluate risk factors of MTSS.

For millennia mud has been utilized to make brick for the construction of both residential as well as architectural purposes. However, concerns regarding their vulnerability to different kinds of hazards due to their weak mechanical properties and durability have emerged. This study addressed the global challenge of developing sustainable and affordable construction materials, particularly in resource-constrained regions.

Purpose: To evaluate the posterior scleral stiffness of different regions in high myopic eyes and to explore its associations with macular choroidal and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickness and vasculature.
Methods: Thirty subjects with high myopic eyes and 30 subjects with low myopic eyes were included in this study. The elastic modulus of the macular and peripapillary sclera at the temporal, nasal, superior and inferior regions were determined via shear wave elastography (SWE).

The modification of thermoplastic polymers is frequently impeded by the inherent contradiction between their toughness and strength. In this study, an effective strategy to significantly improve the mechanical properties of ductile polymers by simply adding a complimentary rigid polymer is introduced. This work uses a semi-crystalline polymer aliphatic polyketone (POK) as the matrix material and a small quantity of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as the rigid polymer, through establishing molecular chain entanglements at the interface to produce POK/PMMA blends with exceptional mechanical property.

Background: Determining the optimum water absorption capacity of gluten-free flours for an improved breadmaking process has been a challenge because there is no standard method. In the present study, large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) tests were performed to explore the impact of different levels of added water on non-linear viscoelastic response of soy flour dough in comparison to wheat flour dough at a consistency of 500 BU.
Results: Among the LAOS parameters, large strain modulus (G') and large strain rate viscosity (η') were found to better probe the impact of added water amount on non-linear viscoelastic properties of soy flour dough.

The ore mining sites commonly experience slope instability, which is causing concern for the workers' safety and the operation's stability. Considering the Ziluoyi iron ore mining site as a case study, uniaxial compression strength and shear tests are performed on the lower disk peripheral rock, ore body, and upper disk peripheral rock, leading to the extraction of compressive strength and elastic modulus (lower disk: 77.7 MPa-9.
