Purpose: To evaluate visual acuity and contrast sensitivity after bilateral implantation of AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® +2.50 D or +3.00 D.
Methods: A total of 56 eyes with cataract had bilateral implantation of a multifocal IOL. Inclusion criteria were corneal astigmatism less than 1.0 diopters, axial length between 22.0 and 24.0 mm, and no associated ocular disease. Outcome measures recorded 12 months postoperatively were binocular uncorrected and corrected distance, intermediate and near visual acuities, and contrast sensitivity. Postoperative quality of life and patient satisfaction were assessed with the VF-14 Questionnaire.
Results: Twenty months postoperatively, the mean uncorrected and best-corrected distance visual acuities, UCIVA at 60 cm, and contrast sensitivity were similar in all two groups. UCNVA were better in the +3.00 IOL group than in the +2.50 D group. Patients reported good performance for visual tasks.
Conclusion: Apodized multifocal IOLs seem a good compromise for non-spectacles life in elderly patients; our study indicates that this solution has a good long-term stability on patients' visual function.

Objective: To identify MRI features of desmoid tumors (DTs) that predict the growth of residual disease following ablation.
Methods: Patients who underwent MRI-guided ablation for DTs between February 2013 and April 2021 were included in this single-center IRB-approved retrospective study. MRI scans assessed three suspicious tissue features: intermediate T2 signal [+iT2], nodular appearance [+NOD], and contrast enhancement [+ENH].

Metallo-beta-lactamase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) is a major pathogen in burn wounds, often exhibiting high levels of antibiotic resistance, which complicates treatment strategies. This study deals with the validity of the modified Carbapenem Inactivation Method (mCIM) and the simplified Carbapenem Inactivation Method (sCIM) phenotypic tests for screening metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) production by P.

Background: Accurate localisation of symptomatic osteoarthritic (OA) lesions in the midfoot, hindfoot and ankle remains challenging due to their complex anatomy. Conventional radiographs have limitations in complex areas or overlapping structures. SPECT/CT has shown promising results in detecting symptomatic OA lesions, yet its superiority over MRI, the current standard for soft tissue pathology, remains uncertain.

Smoking is widely acknowledged for its harmful effects on multiple organs. However, its specific causal relationship with chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains uncertain. This study applied bivariate causal analysis and two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) methods to examine the association between various smoking behaviors - initiation, cessation, age at initiation, cigarettes smoked per day, and lifetime smoking - and CKD, using genome-wide data.
