Chronic duodenitis in patients with duodenal ulcer is characterized by substantial morphofunctional changes in the mucosa, decreased transmural potential difference and definite patterns of carbohydrate-containing biopolymer production, the initial changes being manifested as neutral glycoprotein hypersecretion with their subsequent diminished synthesis rates, followed by a more pronounced drop of sialo- and sulfoglycoprotein levels. A correlation was found between the severity of duodenitis, morphometric and histochemical parameters, and gastric pepsin secretion rates (hypersecretion). It is suggested that these changes are etiopathogenetically common.

Advanced-stage duodenal cancer in pregnancy.

This is a case report of a pregnant patient diagnosed with advanced-stage duodenal cancer in the second trimester. To the author's knowledge, there are no studies that describe the management of advanced duodenal cancer during pregnancy and this case highlights the importance of creating a multidisciplinary team and incorporating shared decision-making when discussing diagnostic workup and treatment options, including the use of cytotoxic therapy during pregnancy, with patients. This study will also discuss maternal and fetal outcomes after the administration of FOLFOX (leucovorin, fluorouracil and oxaliplatin) chemotherapy during the second trimester.

Case report of a patient with a duodenal ulcer, initially treated with sclerosing agents, as is common practice for most bleeding ulcers. However, the evolution following this treatment is unusual.
