Shwachman-Diamond syndrome (SDS) is a recessive ribosomopathy, characterized by bone marrow failure and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (ePI) often associated with neurodevelopmental and skeletal abnormalities. The aim of this report is to describe a SDS patient with early ichthyosis associated with dermal and epidermal intracellular lipid droplets (iLDs), hypoglycemia and later a distinctive clinical SDS phenotype. At 3 months of age, she had ichthyosis, growth retardation, and failure to thrive. She had not cytopenia. Ultrasonography (US) showed pancreatic diffuse high echogenicity. Subsequently fasting hypoketotic hypoglycemia occurred without permanent hepatomegaly or hyperlipidemia. Continuous gavage feeding was followed by clinical improvement including ichthyosis and hypoglycemia. After 14 months of age, she developed persistent neutropenia and ePI consistent with SDS. The ichthyotic skin biopsy, performed at 5 months of age, disclosed iLDs in all epidermal layers, in melanocytes, eccrine sweat glands, Schwann cells and dermal fibroblasts. These iLDs were reminiscent of those described in Dorfman-Chanarin syndrome (DCS) or Wolman's disease. Both LIPA and CGI-58 analysis did not revealed pathogenic mutation. By sequencing SBDS, a compound heterozygous for a previously reported gene mutation (c.258 + 2T>C) and a novel mutation (c.284T>G) were found. Defective SBDS may hypothetically interfere as in DCS, with neutral lipid metabolism and play a role in the SDS phenotype such as ichthyosis with dermal and epidermal iLDs and hypoglycemia. This interference with neutral lipid metabolism must most likely occur in the cytoplasm compartment as in DCS and not in the lysosomal compartment as in Wolman's disease. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Background: Intradermal injection of CPM-HA20G, a low-viscoelasticity hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler with glycerol, has been shown to be effective for facial rejuvenation in Caucasians, but research in Asians is limited.
Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of CPM-HA20G in enhancing facial skin quality in Korean women using a protocol developed by local aesthetic experts.
Patients/methods: In this 24-week prospective, single-arm, open-label study, 20 women received CPM-HA20G injections in the immediate subdermal layer on the anterior cheek (1 mL per side; total 2 mL) in three sessions every 4 weeks.

Miliarias are a group of eccrine disorders characterized by sweat retention due to the occlusion of eccrine ducts. Miliaria profunda is the rarest form of miliaria and occurs when eccrine ducts are obstructed at the dermal-epidermal junction. A granulomatous variant of centrifugal miliaria profunda classic findings of granulomatous infiltrate on histology and centrifugal expansion of deep nodules or plaques.

Peptide nanofibers have been attractive targets for regenerative medicine applications due to their tailorability to be easily functionalized for specific bioactivity, biocompatibility, ease of synthesis, adjustability of their physicochemical characteristics, and lack of biological contamination. Research groups have investigated their use for the regeneration of various tissues, such as bone, cartilage, brain, peripheral nerves, cardiac tissue, vascular tissues, endocrine cells, muscles, etc., for the treatment of degenerative diseases or tissue loss due to accidents or aging.

Background: There is no definitive solution for the treatment of striae distensae (SD), and effectiveness of each treatment method remains controversial. We aimed to investigate and compare the efficacy of the combination of Erbium YAG (Er:YAG) laser and stromal vascular fraction (SVF), the combination of Er:YAG laser and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Er:YAG laser plus saline in the treatment of SD.
Materials And Methods: In 12 participating patients with at least three lesions (36 lesions in total), each lesion was treated with an Er:YAG laser.

To enable in vitro investigation of human skin immunology, this study develops a microfluidic human skin equivalent (HSE) that supports the delivery of circulating immune cells via a vascular microchannel embedded within the dermis of a full-thickness construct. Within this platform, activation of keratinocyte inflammation promotes monocyte migration out of the vascular channel and into the dermal and epidermal compartments. Single-cell transcriptomic analysis reveals dynamic and cell-specific patterns of gene expression that are characteristic of acute activation and resolution of an inflammatory immune response, and the gene signatures of the monocyte-derived cells closely matches the differentiation trajectory of the monocytes into mature dermal macrophages.
