Hospitalization is a stressful context for all children and their families, but especially for children with communication difficulties. Effective communication using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies can play a critical role in preparing and supporting everyone involved in such situations to have discussions that minimize insecurity, allow children to express their concerns, and so decrease negative stress and anxiety. However, there is a critical need to identify robust and reliable ways of evaluating the effectiveness of interventions that seek to achieve this aim. This research note illustrates some of the challenges and problems that require attention and suggests possible new research tools, for example, the use of physiological measures. The evaluation of an AAC intervention on a day surgery ward is described and used to illustrate one potential physiological measure for evaluating the impact of an intervention.

Importance: More than 4 million Medicare beneficiaries have enrolled in dual-eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs), and coordination-only D-SNPs are common. Little is known about the impact of coordination-only D-SNPs on Medicaid-covered services and spending, including long-term services and supports, which are financed primarily by Medicaid.
Objective: To evaluate changes in Medicaid fee-for-service (FFS) spending before and after new enrollment in coordination-only D-SNPs vs new enrollment in non-D-SNP Medicare Advantage (MA) plans among community-living beneficiaries enrolled in both Medicare and North Carolina Medicaid.

Previous data suggests almost one third of myeloma patients acquire mutations in the key IMiD effector cereblon by the time they are pomalidomide refractory. Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term treatment outcomes of basal implants in patients with severely resorbed ridges, including the survival and success rates, patient complaints, satisfaction, and Quality of Life.
Evidence Acquisition: An extensive electronic search was conducted on the search engines: PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar using Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT) and the key words (basal implants, Corticobasal implants, Strategic Implants, severely resorbed ridge, severely atrophic ridge, treatment outcome, patient satisfaction) within the last 10 years.
Evidence Synthesis: A total of 21 articles were found, encompassing 9732 basal implants placed in 1219 patients.
