Purpose: To report the results of a retrospective study on prophylactic laser treatment versus observation of giant retinal tears (GRTs) fellow eyes.

Methods: One hundred and sixty consecutive charts of patients operated for GRT were included in this retroprospective study. Standard office visit included manifest and corrected refraction, intraocular pressure measurement, slit-lamp examination of the anterior and posterior segment with +90 diopter lens, and indirect ophthalmoscopy were performed at baseline and during follow-up period.

Results: Observation group included 62 and prophylactic laser treatment group 98 eyes. The incidence of retinal tears with localized preequatorial retinal detachment, GRTs with macula-ON retinal detachment, and GRTs with Macula-OFF retinal detachment were 3.2, 0, and 14.5%, respectively, during 43.5 ± 19.8 months of follow-up period in observation group and 11.2, 2, and 0%, respectively, in prophylactic laser treatment group during 37.2 ± 16.3 months of follow-up period.

Conclusion: Prophylactic laser treatment of GRTs fellow eyes decreased the incidence of GRTs and limited the consequences of newly developed tears, lowering the occurrence of a macula-off retinal detachment with a consequent better final visual outcome respect to observation group.

Purpose: To evaluate outcome and incidence of ocular hypertension after Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) and DMEK combined with cataract surgery (triple DMEK) after Nd:YAG laser iridotomy (IO) and surgical iridectomy (IE).

Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent DMEK or triple DMEK surgery at the Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital Düsseldorf, Germany, from January 2018 to June 2020 and had received either a prophylactic preoperative IO or an intraoperative IE. Patient demographic data; best corrected visual acuity; central corneal thickness; intraocular pressure (IOP); endothelial cell density; and complications such as occurrence of early postoperative IOP elevation, macular edema, rebubbling rate, and incidence of glaucoma were analyzed.

Introduction: Laser resurfacing provides a minimally invasive method for addressing facial/neck skin rejuvenation neglected by modern surgical approaches. Despite its popularity, there is a paucity of outcome data. Herein, we present patient reported outcomes (PROs) to assess the effectiveness of a single surgeon's approach to skin rejuvenation.

Remote photobiomodulation ameliorates behavioral and neuropathological outcomes in a rat model of repeated closed head injury.

Repeated closed-head injuries (rCHI) from activities like contact sports, falls, military combat, and traffic accidents pose a serious risk due to their cumulative impact on the brain. Often, rCHI is not diagnosed until symptoms of irreversible brain damage appear, highlighting the need for preventive measures. This study assessed the prophylactic efficacy of remote photobiomodulation (PBM) targeted at the lungs against rCHI-induced brain injury and associated behavioral deficits.

: Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a potentially blinding retinal disorder. RRD in the first eye is a well-recognized risk factor for bilateral RRD since risk factors that predispose to RRD affect both eyes. In this study, we assess the presenting factors that predispose individuals to bilateral RRD and evaluate the role of prophylactic retinopexy in preventing fellow-eye RRD.

Background: One of the significant challenges that can arise during cataract surgery is the occurrence of posterior capsule rupture (PCR) and vitreous loss. It may result in different complications including cystoid macular edema, endophthalmitis, glaucoma, and considerably retinal detachment which consequently contributes to poor functional outcomes.

Methods: This study was a prospective double blinded randomized clinical trial including 42 patients with previous complicated cataract surgery including posterior capsular rupture and consequently vitreous loss that anterior vitrectomy was done for them.
