Objective: To examine the prevalence of herniation pits (HPs) and to evaluate differences in radiographic features related to femoroacetabular impingement-a hip disorder with abnormal abutment between the acetabulum and femur-between hips with and without HPs in a convenience sample of Japanese patients.
Materials And Methods: We reviewed 1,178 hips on each side (695 men, 483 women; mean age, 58.2 years) using computed tomographic images. The radiological assessments of hip morphology were performed by measuring the lateral center edge angle, acetabular index, acetabular version, alpha angle, and femoral head-neck offset. HPs were defined as the round or oval cystic lesions surrounded by sclerotic bone located below the anterior femoral neck cortex.
Results: Intraclass and interclass reproducibility of all radiographic measurements was acceptable (ICC: 0.71-0.98). The prevalence of HPs was 13.9 % in all subjects and was significantly higher in men (18.1 %) than in women (7.8 %; p < 0.001). HPs were larger in male (p < 0.001) and elderly subjects (p < 0.005). In subjects with HPs, the alpha angle was larger and femoral head-neck offset and offset ratio were smaller in the cohort overall and in men. Logistic regression analysis revealed the association between radiological cam-type FAI and HPs in all subjects (odds ratio: 1.86, p < 0.001).
Conclusions: We revealed the prevalence of HPs and showed it has a predilection for men in this Japanese cohort. Femoral head asphericity or small head-neck offset was more common in subjects with HPs than those without HPs.

Background/purpose: Radiolucent lesions of the mandible, including ameloblastoma, odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), dentigerous cyst (DC) and simple bone cyst (SBC), are frequently encountered in clinical practice. However, they vary in type and occasionally in appearance. Each lesion needs a different treatment and approach; therefore, accurate diagnosis is crucial before treatment.

Introduction This study aimed to determine the characteristics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia caused by the wild type and the alpha variant in patients. This study included patients with COVID-19 admitted to Fukui General Hospital between October 31, 2020, and April 30, 2021. Methods Pneumonia occurrence rate, chest X-ray, and computed tomography (CT) findings were evaluated by two radiologists.

Osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS) is a rare complication associated with rapid sodium changes, typically encountered in patients with severe hyponatremia. ODS in patients with normonatremia (ODSIN) is less recognized. We describe a patient with MRI-detected ODSIN following neurotrauma and reviewed the relevant literature.

The prediction of survival outcomes is a key factor in making decisions for prostate cancer (PCa) treatment. Advances in computer-based technologies have increased the role of machine learning (ML) methods in predicting cancer prognosis. Due to the various effective treatments available for each non-linear landscape of PCa, the integration of ML can help offer tailored treatment strategies and precision medicine approaches, thus improving survival in patients with PCa.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a worldwide, disabling condition, more prevalent in older people. Although anxiety and depression disorders are common in OA and may affect compliance with treatment, both disorders are still underrecognized and undertreated. The present study aimed to screen for anxiety and depression among patients with primary knee OA, and to study the relationship between Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) score and different disease parameters.
