In order to study the influence of different substituent groups on the fluorescence properties, a series of bis-Schiff bases (L) with electron-donating groups (salicylaldehyde, o-vanillin, 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde) and electron-drawing group (4-formylbenzoic acid) have been synthesized, and characterized by IR spectrum, NMR, mass spectrum, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The investigation of the fluorescent properties reveals that the fluorescence can be enhanced when the bis-Schiff base ligands with electron-donating groups complex with Zn ion, while other kinds of metal complexes with these ligands do not show any enhancement, whereas no fluorescence enhancement can be observed when the ligand with electron-drawing group complexes with all different types of metal ions. In addition, as for the ligands with electron-donating groups detecting zinc ion, the fluorescence intensity is linear correlated with the concentration of zinc ion. Therefore, the study indicates that the ligands with electron-donating groups can be used as Zn ion fluorescent sensor.

A series of 2,6-di(pyrazine-2-yl)pyridine (dppy) ligands - of varying substituents of different electronic nature (-NMe, -OMe,-Me, and -Cl) in the 4-position of the pyridine moiety has been designed and synthesized to study the binding behavior of the dppy ligands towards Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA), a low-cost serum albumin protein. The interaction between ligands and BSA has been studied using UV-Visible and fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular docking studies. The fluorescence of BSA was found to be quenched in the presence of all the ligands , in which ligand , having the most electron donating group NMe exhibits the maximum binding affinity towards BSA.

A series of new (donor)₂-donor-π-acceptor (D2-D-π-A) and (acceptor)₂-donor-π-acceptor (A2-D-π-A) organic photosensitizers based on the framework of (Z)-2-cyano-3-(5-(4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)thiophen-2-yl)acrylic acid have been synthesized and characterized. By incorporating groups with different electron-donating or withdrawing abilities, such as dibenzothiophene (DBT), dibenzofuran (DBF), and triazine (TA), into the triphenylamine segment, their photophysical properties have been regulated. Theoretical calculations were used to explore how various donor-acceptor combinations influence their hydrogen production performance.

The discrete π- stacks of specific lengths and orientation is crucial for understanding the impact of intermolecular interactions on optical or electronic properties of nanographdiynes. We designed and synthesized nanographdiynes modified with bulky rotatable asymmetric substituents. The peripheral substituents with different push-pull electronic properties can induce molecular dipoles perpendicular to nanoGDY π surface with different orientation.

Chalcones demonstrate significant absorption in the near ultraviolet-visible spectrum, making them valuable for applications such as solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and nonlinear optics. This study investigates four dibenzalacetone derivatives (DBAd), DBA, DBC, DEP, and DMA, examining the impact of electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups and conjugation elongation on their electronic structure in solvents of varying polarities. Using the Polarizable Continuum Model (PCM) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT), we characterized the excited states of these compounds.

With the advancement of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography technology, the demand for high-performance EUV photoresists has surged. Traditional photoresists struggle to meet the stringent requirements for increasingly smaller feature sizes in semiconductor manufacturing. Among emerging candidates, tin-based materials, particularly Sn-oxo photoresists, have shown promise due to their superior EUV light absorption properties.
