Vocal fundamental frequency (Fo) characteristics were sampled for a group of seven young children. The children were followed longitudinally for a 12-month period, spanning preword, single-word, and multiword vocalizations. The Fo characteristics were analyzed with reference to chronological age, vocalization length, and lexicon size. Measures of average Fo and Fo variability changed little during the 12-month period for each child. A rising-falling intonation contour was the most prevalent Fo contour among the children. In general, the influence of vocalization length and language acquisition on measures of Fo was negligible. It is suggested that relative uniformity in vocal Fo exists in early vocalizations across preword and meaningful speech periods.

Introduction: Despite its importance in voice training, comprehensive research into sustained vowel phonation with constant pitch and increasing and decreasing loudness, the so-called Messa di Voce, is lacking. The study examines the laryngeal behavior during Messa di Voce, regarding the impact of the speed of execution on voice stability parameters.
Materials And Methods: Nine untrained, healthy subjects (5 female, 4 male) were asked to perform Messa di Voce exercises on the vowel [i:], involving a gradual increase and decrease of volume.

The purpose of this paper is to make easily available to the scientific community an efficient voice morphing tool called STRAIGHTMORPH and provide a short tutorial on its use with examples. STRAIGHTMORPH consists of a set of Matlab functions allowing the generation of high-quality, parametrically-controlled morphs of an arbitrary number of voice samples. A first step consists in extracting an 'mObject' for each voice sample, with accurate tracking of the fundamental frequency contour and manual definition of Time and Frequency anchors corresponding across samples to be morphed.

The extraction and analysis of pitch underpin speech and music recognition, sound segregation, and other auditory tasks. Perceptually, pitch can be represented as a helix composed of two factors: height monotonically aligns with frequency, while chroma cyclically repeats at doubled frequencies. Although the early perceptual and neurophysiological mechanisms for extracting pitch from acoustic signals have been extensively investigated, the equally essential subsequent stages that bridge to high-level auditory cognition remain less well understood.
