The synthesis of impurities detected in clandestinely manufactured Amphetamine Type Stimulants (ATS) has emerged as more desirable than simple "fingerprint" profiling. We have been investigating the impurities formed when phenyl-2-propanone (P2P) 5, a key ATS precursor, is synthesised in three steps; an aldol condensation of benzaldehyde and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK); a Baeyer-Villiger reaction; and ester hydrolysis. We have identified and selectively synthesised several impurities that may be used as route specific markers for this series of synthetic steps. Specifically these impurities are 3-methyl-4-phenyl-3-buten-2-one 3, 2-methyl-1,5-diphenylpenta-1,4-diene-3-one 9, 2-(methylamino)-3-methyl-4-phenyl-3-butene 16, 2-(Methylamino)-3-methyl-4-phenylbutane 17, and 1-(methylamino)-2-methyl-1,5-diphenylpenta-4-ene-3-one 22.

Background: The invasion of Spodoptera frugiperda into China has caused serious losses to the food industry and has developed varying degrees of resistance to various chemical pesticides. Developing new plant-based pesticides is of great significance for the sustainable management of S. frugiperda.

A streamlined strategy for the one-pot synthesis of isoxazolone analogues has been developed through an acceptorless dehydrogenative annulation (ADA) pathway by employing new Ru(II) hydride complexes as effective catalysts. New Ru(II) complexes () tailored with N̂O chelating carbazolone benzhydrazone ligands were synthesized and their formation was confirmed using analytical and spectral techniques including FT-IR and NMR. The structural configuration of the complexes featuring an octahedral geometry around the Ru(II) ion was precisely determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Background: The volatile composition of Ruché, a red wine produced from a native grape in Piedmont (Italy), was investigated using headspace-solid phase microextraction (SPME) coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The main volatile compounds of the wine were identified and quantified. Chemometric techniques were applied to identify features and possible clusters among the different samples.

The 5,6-Bis(diisopropylphosphino)acenaphthene -stabilized Sb(I) cationic compound [LSb][OTf] (OTf = CFSO) possessing two lone pairs of electrons on the Sb(I) center showed nucleophilic behavior toward methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate forming the oxidized product [LSbMe][OTf] (OTf = CFSO). Reaction of compound with Lewis acids such as GaCl and AlBr led to changes in the counteranions only giving products [LSb][GaCl] and [LSb][SbBr] , respectively. A metathesis reaction was observed when compound was reacted with PI.

Background: A recent increase in severe fever with thrombocytopaenia syndrome (SFTS) virus cases in Korea has been observed. This virus attacks humans and animals, and no drug is available for its treatment. This study is investigating potential control measures targeting the causative agent, Haemaphysalis longicornis.
