Structure elucidation of ficellomycin.

Research Laboratories, Upjohn Company, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49001.

Published: March 1989

The structure of ficellomycin, an antibiotic previously discovered by Argoudelis et al., is elucidated as valyl-2-[4-guanidyl-1-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexan-2-yl]glycine (1) by NMR, MS, and derivatization studies. The 1-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane moiety in 1 represents an unusual ring system making ficellomycin a unique natural product compound.

Background: People experiencing tooth loss need dental prostheses to preserve the integrity of their oral structures and replace the missing teeth. Patient-related outcome measures (PROMs) for perceived barriers to prosthodontics treatment are scarce in the literature.

Aims: The aim of this study was to develop a comprehensive scale to identify and measure barriers to prosthodontic treatment as perceived by partially edentulous patients.

In an effort to improve safety and cycling stability of liquid electrolytes, the use of dicarbonates has been explored. In this study, four dicarbonate structures with varying end groups and spacers are investigated. The effect of these structural differences on the physical and ion transport properties is elucidated, showing that the end group has a significant influence on ion transport.

The present study elucidated the role of both hydrogen and halogen bonds, from an electronic structure perspective, in the anion recognition process by the [2]catenane () containing a moiety with hydrogen bond donors entangled with another macrocyclic halogen bond donor. Spherical and nonspherical anions have been employed. The roles of different σ-hole donors have also been considered.

In-droplet hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX)-mass spectrometry (MS) experiments have been conducted for peptides of highly varied conformational type. A new model is presented that combines the use of protection factors (PF) from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with intrinsic HDX rates ( ) to obtain a structure-to-reactivity calibration curve. Using the model, the relationship of peptide structural flexibility and HDX reactivity for different peptides is elucidated.
