Intestinal failure is a recognized complication of surgically-managed necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Functional adaptation of remaining bowel means that many children are eventually able to achieve enteral autonomy. Integrated multidisciplinary care in the early post-operative phase is key to long-term success. The objective of this review is to outline a clinical approach to management of intestinal and nutritional complications experienced by children following intestinal resection for NEC.

Background: The Montreal classification has been widely used in Crohn's disease since 2005 to categorize patients by the age of onset (A), disease location (L), behavior (B), and upper gastrointestinal tract and perianal involvement. With evolving management paradigms in Crohn's disease, we aimed to assess the performance of gastroenterologists in applying the Montreal classification.
Methods: An online survey was conducted among participants at an international educational conference on inflammatory bowel diseases.

It is urgent for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to develop a robust and facile therapy for effective control of serum phosphate and reasonable regulation of gut microbiota, which are aiming to prevent cardiovascular calcification and reduce cardiovascular complications. Here, bioinspired by intestinal microstructures, we developed biomimetic wrinkled prebiotic-containing microspheres with enhanced intestinal retention and absorption for reducing hyperphosphatemia and vascular calcification of CKD model rats. The resultant CSM@5 microspheres exhibited favorable phosphate binding capacity in vitro and could effectively reduce serum concentration of phosphorous in vivo.

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in intestinal failure (IF) patients after different modes of intestinal rehabilitation.
Methods: HRQoL was assessed using the generic 36-item Short Form Survey (SF-36, ver. 2) and visual analogue scale (VAS) in 6 different areas: diet, sleep, gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, diarrhea, musculoskeletal pain, and other symptoms.
Ulcerative colitis can present with extra-intestinal manifestations, including interstitial lung disease and primary sclerosing cholangitis. When pulmonary symptoms precede gastrointestinal, diagnosis can be challenging. Consideration of Ulcerative colitis in patients with unexplained lung and hepatic pathology is crucial, as a failure of timely intervention can lead to multiorgan complications.

Ibrutinib, a widely used anti-cancer drug, is known to significantly increase the susceptibility to atrial fibrillation (AF). While it is recognized that drugs can reshape the gut microbiota, influencing both therapeutic effectiveness and adverse events, the role of gut microbiota in ibrutinib-induced AF remains largely unexplored. Utilizing 16S rRNA gene sequencing, fecal microbiota transplantation, metabonomics, electrophysiological examination, and molecular biology methodologies, we sought to validate the hypothesis that gut microbiota dysbiosis promotes ibrutinib-associated AF and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
