Published: June 2016

Within the repertoire of organic chemical transformations, the halogenation of substrates is among the most versatile, reliable, and broadly applicable reactions. Although a multitude of different methods are known today, there is still a huge demand for novel and, in particular, catalytic halogenation methods that exhibit new reactivities and selectivities. The class of hypervalent iodanes meets exactly these needs and thus offers a great opportunity to fuel this highly desirable direction within the field of halogenation chemistry. This Concept gives a short overview of recent examples focusing on selective and/or mechanistically unusual halogenations.

Background: Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) is an effective treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease. Although MHD can prolong the survival of patients, their quality of life is lower and the fatality rate is higher. This work analyzed the factors related to the autogenous arteriovenous fistula (AVF)-like expansion of non-diabetic MHD patients by vascular ultrasound (VUS).

Unraveling the Meaning of Effective Uptake Coefficients in Multiphase and Aerosol Chemistry.

Acc Chem Res

Chemical Sciences Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, California 94720, United States.

ConspectusReactions of gas phase molecules with surfaces play key roles in atmospheric and environmental chemistry. Reactive uptake coefficients (γ), the fraction of gas-surface collisions that yield a reaction, are used to quantify the kinetics in these heterogeneous and multiphase systems. Unlike rate coefficients for homogeneous gas- or liquid-phase reactions, uptake coefficients are system- and observation-dependent quantities that depend upon a multitude of underlying elementary steps.

Automated and Efficient Sampling of Chemical Reaction Space.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

Machine learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) promise quantum-level accuracy at classical force field speeds, but their performance hinges on the quality and diversity of training data. An efficient and fully automated approach to sample chemical reaction space without relying on human intuition, addressing a critical gap in MLIP development is presented. The method combines the speed of tight-binding calculations with selective high-level refinement, generating diverse datasets that capture both equilibrium and reactive regions of potential energy surfaces.

Selective Hydrogen Isotope Exchange Catalysed by Simple Alkali-Metal Bases in DMSO.

Isotope Exchange processes are becoming the preferred way to prepare isotopically labelled molecules, avoiding the redesign of multistep synthetic protocols. In the case of deuterium incorporation, the most used strategy has employed transition metals, that offer high reactivity under mild reaction conditions. Despite their success, the trade-off is that these metals are precious, and often exhibit high toxicity.

Flow injection mass spectrometry (FI-MS) is widely employed for high-throughput metabolome analysis, yet the absence of prior separation leads to significant matrix effects, thereby limiting the metabolome coverage. In this study, we introduce a novel photosensitive MS probe, iTASO-ONH, integrated with FI-MS to establish a high-throughput strategy for submetabolome analyses. The iTASO probe features a conjugated-imino sulfonate moiety for efficient photolysis under 365 nm irradiation and a reactive group for selective metabolite labeling.
