Qualitative and quantitative determination of lysozyme concentrations in urine and serum with high selectivity and sensitivity is important for diagnosing the progression of several diseases. In this report, we devised an improved method for specifically detecting lysozyme by combining magnetic nanoparticles (for separation and enrichment), an aptamer (for selective binding of lysozyme) and strongly scattering silver nanoparticles (AgNPs, for detection by light scattering, but also providing another level of selectivity due to their electrostatic binding with lysozyme). In this system, 0.4-30 nM lysozyme could be simply detected owing to the decreased light scattering of AgNPs in solution after magnetic separation, with a detection limit of 100 pM. In addition, lysozyme was also able to be semi-quantified by using the dark-field light scattering images of AgNPs after enrichment by the MNP-apt-lysozyme complex. Moreover, this design shows great promise for the robust and reliable detection of lysozyme in real samples, with a recovery rate ranging from 98.6% to 101.3% in human serum samples. Therefore, this assay provided robust measurements with good specificity, sensitivity, and tolerance of changes in the sample matrix. We expect that this MNP-based aptasensor may find utility in the accurate diagnosis of lysozyme-related diseases.

High-resolution Brillouin spectroscopy was employed to investigate the anisotropy in surface wave velocities within a bulk single crystal of SbTe, a well-known layered van der Waals material. By leveraging the bulk elastic constants derived from various simulation methods, we were able to theoretically calculate the distribution of surface acoustic phonon velocities on the cleavage plane of the material. Upon analyzing multiple simulation results, it became evident that the most significant discrepancies arose in the calculations of the elastic constant c, with values ranging from 48 to 98 GPa.

The aim of this study was to assess the critical quality attributes of parenteral nanoemulsion formulations by measuring several physicochemical parameters and linking them to their in vitro performance, illustrating how simplistic and routinely used approaches are insufficient for understanding a potential nanomedicine. Physicochemical characterization should encompass size and size distribution through at least two orthogonal techniques, such as dynamic light scattering (DLS) and electron microscopy, with added value from analytical ultracentrifugation. In vitro toxicity assessment was performed using three different assays to determine mitochondrial activity (WST-1), membrane integrity (lactate dehydrogenase release (LDH) assay), and cell viability (propidium iodide (PI) staining).

This study provides insights into nanocellulose production using 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulphate ([Bmim]HSO) as a green solvent, utilizing cellulose derived from date palm waste. Critical hydrolysis parameters were optimized through analysis of variance and response surface methodology. The predicted nanocellulose yield (Y) followed a quadric equation represented by Y=55.

Angiogenesis provides essential nutrients and oxygen to tumors during tumorigenesis, facilitating invasion and metastasis. Consequently, inhibiting tumor angiogenesis is an established strategy in anti-cancer therapy. In this study, we engineered a dual-function nanosystem with both antiangiogenic and photodynamic properties.
