Post-translational modifications of proteins via palmitoylation, a thioester linkage of a 16-carbon fatty acid to a cysteine residue, reversibly increases their affinity for cholesterol-rich lipid rafts in membranes, changing their function. Little is known about how altered palmitoylation affects function at the systemic level and contributes to CNS pathology. However, recent studies suggested a role for the downregulation of palmitoyl acetyltransferase (DHHC) 21 gene expression in the development of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)-like syndrome.

Background: Bursaphelenchus xylophilus is considered a quarantine plant nematode species, that causes major damage to pine ecosystems globally. However, there are few reports on the identification and function of the sex pheromone receptors involved in mating. The function of Bxy-npr-21 as a potential sex pheromone receptor gene was verified from molecules to behaviors in this study.

Background: Interleukin-21 (IL-21) is a cytokine produced by various cell types, including T cells, natural killer cells, myeloid cells, and B cells, and has a broad range of potential applications in cancer therapy. To improve the therapeutic index, we explored the use of fusion technologies that involved linking other anticancer peptides to the IL-21 gene using specific linkers.
Objectives: This study aimed to compare the anticancer potential of IL-21 and IL-21 fusion proteins.
