Successful control of homogeneous and complete coating of graphene or graphene-based composites with well-defined metal organic framework (MOF) layers is a great challenge. Herein, novel magnetic graphene MOF composites were constructed via a simple strategy for self-assembly of well-distributed, dense, and highly porous MOFs on both sides of graphene nanosheets. Graphene functionalized with magnetic nanoparticles and carboxylic groups on both sides was explored as the backbone and template to direct the controllable self-assembly of MOFs. The prepared composite materials have a relatively high specific surface area (345.4 m(2) g(-1)), and their average pore size is measured to be 3.2 nm. Their relatively high saturation magnetization (23.8 emu g(-1)) indicates their strong magnetism at room temperature. Moreover, the multifunctional composite was demonstrated to be a highly effective affinity material in selective extraction and separation of low-concentration biomolecules from biological samples, in virtue of the size-selection property of the unique porous structure and the excellent affinity of the composite materials. Besides providing a solution for the construction of well-defined functional graphene-based MOFs, this work could also contribute to selective extraction of biomolecules, in virtue of the universal affinity between immobilized metal ions and biomolecules.

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) can significantly improve gas separation performance, but the type and state of the filler in the membrane matrix are key indicators for the development of MMMs. Therefore, in this work, 6FDA-DAM/ODA (1:1), metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different particle sizes (UiO-66 and UiO-66-NH) were synthesized, and then MOFs were doped into 6FDA-DAM/ODA to prepare MMMs. The effects of the dopant materials and their particle sizes on the gas separation performance of the membranes were investigated by testing the permeability of the MMMs to H, CO, CH, and N.

The broad temperature adaptability associated with the desolvation process remains a formidable challenge for organic electrolytes in rechargeable metal batteries, especially under low-temperature (LT) conditions. Although a traditional approach involves utilizing electrolytes with a high degree of anion participation in the solvation structure, known as weakly solvation electrolytes (WSEs), the solvation structure of these electrolytes is highly susceptible to temperature fluctuations, potentially undermining their LT performance. To address this limitation, we have devised an innovative electrolyte that harnesses the interplay between solvent molecules, effectively blending strong and weak solvents while incorporating anion participation in a solvation structure that remains mostly unchanged by temperature variations.

Halogenated benzenes (HBs) are hydrophobic organic chemicals belonging to persistent organic pollutants. Owing to their persistence, they represent a serious problem in environmental contamination, specifically of soils and sediments. One of the most important physical processes determining the fate of HBs in soils is adsorption to main soil components such as soil organic matter and soil minerals.

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are regarded as the potential alternative of lithium-ion batteries due to their ultrahigh theoretical specific capacity (3860 mAh g-1). However, severe instability and safety problems caused by the dendrite growth and inevitable side reactions have hindered the commercialization of LMBs. To solve them, in this contribution, a design strategy of soluble lithiophilic covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is proposed.
