Aquaporins (AQPs) are biological water channels known for fast water transport (∼10(8)-10(9) water molecules per s per channel), with complete proton/ion exclusion. Few synthetic channels have been designed to mimic this high water permeability and to reject ions at a significant level. This Feature Article will discuss the incipient developments of the first artificial water channel systems.

Background: Adenosine receptor 1 (A1R) is the predominant subtype of adenosine receptors, primarily distributed in memory-associated brain regions such as the cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum. It actively participates in plasticity-regulated synaptic transmission and is crucial for functions related to sleep, arousal, cognition, learning, and memory. In a recent study, we reported that an elevation in A1R signaling mediates aberrant neuron-glial crosstalk in Alzheimer's disease.

Developing efficient path integral (PI) methods for atomistic simulations of vibrational spectra in heterogeneous condensed phases and interfaces has long been a challenging task. Here, we present the h-CMD method, short for hybrid centroid molecular dynamics, which combines the recently introduced fast quasi-CMD (f-QCMD) method with fast CMD (f-CMD). In this scheme, molecules that are believed to suffer more seriously from the curvature problem of CMD, e.

Background: In recent times, the applications of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) beyond kidney-related conditions have been progressively increasing, and its implementation in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) specifically for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has been documented. This meta-analysis compiles all existing RCTs to assess whether CRRT benefits ARDS.
Methods: We searched 12 databases in English and Chinese and two clinical trial centers up to November 28, 2023.

Pollution monitoring in surface water using field observational procedure is a challenging matter as it is time consuming, and needs a lot of efforts. This study addresses the challenge of efficiently monitoring and predicting water pollution using a GIS-based artificial neural network (ANN) to detect heavy metal (HM) pollution in surface water and effect of wastewater required discharge on the Euphrates River in Al-Diwaniyah City, Iraq. The study established using 40 water sampling stations and incorporates Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) to assess HM levels.

The application of sand-clay mixtures is diverse in contemporary engineering practices, with particular emphasis on their shear strength characteristics. This study focused on the estimation of the shear strength of sand-clay mixtures using the artificial neural network (ANN) and low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. In this study, NMR tests and triaxial compression tests were carried out on 160 artificial sand-clay mixtures with different mineralogical compositions, water contents, and dry densities in the laboratory to obtain the T spectra and shear strength indices, respectively.
