In our dynamic environments, predictive processing is vital for auditory perception and its associated behaviors. Predictive coding formalizes inferential processes by implementing them as information exchange across cortical layers and areas. With laminar-specific blood oxygenation level dependent we measured responses to a cascading oddball paradigm, to ground predictive auditory processes on the mesoscopic human cortical architecture.

Background: Breast cancer screening plays a pivotal role in early detection and subsequent effective management of the disease, impacting patient outcomes and survival rates.
Objective: This study aims to assess breast cancer screening rates nationwide in the United States and investigate the impact of social determinants of health on these screening rates.
Methods: Data on mammography screening at the census tract level for 2018 and 2020 were collected from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

Climate change is an emerging global reality with widespread effects on ecosystems and human communities. However, its significant impact on livestock animals often goes underdiscussed as more focus is given to impact of livestock production on climate change. Implementing high-welfare systems, such as digital monitoring of animals, can help mitigate climate-related challenges by reducing temperature fluctuations and controlling disease spread.

Background: The Age-Friendly Health System (AFHS) initiative seeks to improve care for older adults through assessing and acting on the 4Ms (What Matters, Medication, Mentation, Mobility). The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) joined the initiative in 2020, and from 2022 to 2023, VA led its first Age-Friendly Action Community, a 7-month online educational series to teach clinicians about implementing the 4Ms across VA care settings.
Methods: The VA Action Community was designed to spread awareness about Age-Friendly care for older Veterans, improve interprofessional team knowledge for providing care guided by the 4Ms, and support AFHS implementation across multiple care settings.

Risk adjustment modifies payments to health insurers based on enrollee characteristics that are predictive of higher or lower medical spending. Risk-adjustment policy is a key ingredient for the success of regulated individual insurance markets in Medicare and beyond. Researchers have identified shortcomings of Medicare's current risk-adjustment system, illustrated the limits of coarse fixes, and proposed new strategies that improve the data and calculations used to generate beneficiary risk scores.
