Objective: Collection of epidemiological data about the importance of nutrition counselling and current nutritional knowledge of veterinary surgeons.

Material And Methods: A total of 707 veterinarians were interviewed based on a standardized questionnaire. The survey was divided into three sections and comprised the topics person and working environment, level of education and current knowledge regarding nutrition, as well as the significance of nutrition in daily practice.

Results: The majority of respondents (91.3%) worked in a practice with up to four veterinarians, where most of the participants (89.3%) treated up to 50 patients daily. On a scale from 1 to 5, the veterinarians evaluated their knowledge with a mean of 2.59 (± 0.798) and the importance of nutrition with a mean of 2.02 (± 0.818). Nutrition consulting was provided for at least half of the patients by 37.3% of the participants. The counselling was performed in different ways. The main reasons for a lack of consultancy despite a current indication were time and labor (37.1%) as well as the low willingness of customers to pay (34.6%). The majority of veterinarians were interested in further training concerning nutrition counselling.

Conclusion: Nutrition consulting is an important part of daily veterinary practice but there is a demand for further training.

Clinical Relevance: Although the importance of nutrition is clear, only some of the veterinary surgeons perform consulting on a regular basis. In particular, in case of an existing indication, a nutrition consulting is advisable to ensure maximum success of treatment.

Background: Lung cancer is the main cause of cancer death in the world, with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounting for about 10-15% of all lung cancers. Although programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors represent a major breakthrough in SCLC treatment, only a minority of patients will benefit and there is still a lack of accurate biomarkers to guide clinical application. Inflammation plays a crucial role in tumorigenesis, tumor development, metastasis, and drug resistance, but there is limited research on the predictive value of these inflammatory indicators in SCLC.

Introduction: GLP-1 medications are widely used for weight loss in patients with and without type 2 diabetes. However, limited research exists on their effects in non-diabetic patients, particularly concerning mitochondrial function. This case report investigates the potential of altered mitochondrial dysfunction as a cause of side effects of GLP-1 medications in patients without type 2 diabetes.

In this emulated comparative effectiveness target trial of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and sulfonylurea therapy among adults with type 2 diabetes at moderate cardiovascular disease risk, sulfonylurea use was associated with a significantly higher risk of hypoglycemia requiring emergency department or hospital care than treatment with DPP-4 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists, or SGLT2 inhibitors. This consideration can guide the choice of glucose-lowering therapy in this highly prevalent patient population, in whom avoidance of hypoglycemia is important, yet among whom the risk of severe hypoglycemia has not been examined previously.

Background: About 53 million adults in the United States offer informal care to family and friends with disease or disability. Such care has an estimated economic value of US $600 million. Most informal caregivers are not paid nor trained in caregiving, with many experiencing higher-than-average levels of stress and depression and lower levels of physical health.

Background: Ulcerative colitis patients who undergo ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) without mucosectomy may develop inflammation of the rectal cuff (cuffitis). Treatment of cuffitis typically includes mesalamine suppositories or corticosteroids, but refractory cuffitis may necessitate advanced therapies or procedural interventions. This review aims to summarize the existing literature regarding treatments options for cuffitis.
